Just be polite, patient, treat others as you want to be treated when you get out away from it all, This world is now populated and finding a place away from others is getting pretty hard now. Relax.

You will find plenty of solitude in this country. I got into trucking specifically for two particular reasons, I am a deaf man and in those days society did not allow deaf people to do a #### thing. So... I started something. And the other reason was I spent a few weeks in a major employer as a temp listening to the same old yak yak yak from the girls past their prime. And the bosses micromanaging? Oh please... lol. -
I wouldn't get into trucking, knowing what I know now. ELDs. Tattle-tale gizmos on the rig. Crazy drivers speeding all over. Anarchy on the highways. Possible invasion by robot trucks into the industry in the fairly near future, relegating you to babysitter. Being treated like a subhuman species by companies and by docks. Having to give a 10-year work history as if you're going to work for the CIA. DAC reports out there ready to force you into bad outfits because good outfits (the few that still exist) won't hire you because of a DACmark or DACcident. Having tickets you get in your car affecting your driving record and thus ability to get a truck driving job. Being looked down on by law enforcement, with blame always being heaped on you. The possibility of being busted for manslaughter, thanks to those tattle-tale gizmos lawyers can look through, if an at-fault drunk or texting driver hits you and dies. The ridiculous HOS regs now that force you to race the clock, force you into rush-hour traffic, and make you sit when you're wide awake and drive when you're tired. Look around your area for apprenticeship programs, some which offer union jobs, like HVAC or electrician's journeyman. That's the way to go. Wish I would have gone that route 30 years ago.

You don't interact with people face-to-face most of the time, and if you find a company that does satellite dispatch and pin-to-pin work, you'll never deal with anyone after getting hired.
-
If you think people are getting far too stupid and you dont want to deal with that anymore, driving isn't what you want to do. You deal with stupid shippers, stupid consignees, stupid dispatchers, stupid driver managers and worse, stupid drivers all day every day.
And then you have to deal with your own stupidity because you WILL do stupid #### when you start. Everyone does. I did stuff I NEVER would have thought I would do. But you learn and if you don't kill anyone or bend anything you keep your job.Last edited: Dec 12, 2017
SingingWolf and Dan.S Thank this. -
I’m on linehaul and there is no human contact to speak of. I pick up my bills and go. Switch trailers and return. Might get a couple texts a month from dispatch. Depends on company I guess. I prefer it this way.

"I like the solitude of being behind the wheel."
We're sorry, your application has been denied due to antisocial tendencies. We're concerned you wouldn't present the right image for our company.
"I like dealing with customers and am very service oriented"
We're sorry your application has been denied due to over-social tendencies. We're concerned you would spend too much time chatting with customers and not moving the freight efficiently.
Welcome to what I like to call "The Company Idiocy Conundrum ".
Resistance is futile. You WILL be assimilated.Jazz1 Thanks this. -
Just make sure you go with a company that has driver-facing cameras. That way you know the company really cares about your safety enough to record you picking your nose everyday.
SingingWolf Thanks this.
