Just to clarify for those who may have misunderstood, this isn’t what I implied. That would be illegal brandishing.
When I posed the hypothetical of drawing, it was with the presumption that imminent danger was present and you are clearly under threat.
Now, if your attacker decides to change his mind after looking down the barrel of a pistol, then so much the better as far as I’m concerned.
One important thing to keep in mind here is the standards of different states as far as duty to retreat.
Here in MD for example castle doctrine only applies in your house.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Sad, but avoidable.
This is why you safety check an unfamiliar gun before you handle. Check the magazine, and the chamber. Somebody here obviously didn’t do that. -
Apparently that came from someone who is not seen by me.
Two things.
Brandishing is most certainly illegal in my state. When I refer to drawing, there are three things that must be met: Badguy displays the three things for me to draw.
Ability to hurt or kill (Even if it's a 400 pound wrestler called undertaker... I wont last long against him physically, this is called disparity of force...)
In baltimore, 10 teenagers circling you at the bus stop will also match what is needed for disparity of force...
Oppertunity to hurt or kill, He's advancing on the good guy.
Means... There is a 3 foot katana in his hands and closing. Or whatever it may be.
this is purely a example of the three things that will match against me to draw. The other thought is that no one will ever see that gun in my holster until life or death is in the room or in the immediate area.
If I draw, there is already a decision made that rounds will be sent and everything up to that moment in this life is finished. A new future will be written by the Law and by the Courthouse and prosecutor should I survive this problem.
But if I just pulled the gun and waved it at the mr mad mad coming on and did nothing... that's brandishing. And all he has to do is call the law right now saying there is a wild man waving a gun (That's me.. the supposidely good guy... suddenly I am the bad guy.) -
Taurus 38 special . Small & concealable . I prefer revolvers . Next purchase is a 357 long barrel .

I carry a 2009 (99th anniversary) model Colt Railgun the magazines for it are built myself out of CMC powermag bodies for 10 rounds with Tripp Research 9 round spring/follower kit. Plus one in the chamber locked. Everything else on the gun has been replaced with appropriately improvements for example the stock mag release it really tiny. There are extended buttons that can be put on (And should be...) for example so that in the stress you will find that release.
As far as revolvers, Ive had very good luck with them and love them very much because in certain situations where the colt once suffered a loose plunger tube jam next to the slide which is seriously a fatal jam becoming a paperweight (Too complicated to talk here.. I had to buy a new tube and a tool to install it against the frame so that's it is tight and not come loose) The revolver offers a battle scenario where if any part of the fire control fails, you can still fire the #### thing manually. (Old Navy .44 civil war era comes to mind which is or was one of the guns Ive fired.)
The 357 mag for applying a force against the bad guy is pretty up there. It is one of the top weapons for sheer power that can be applied to a human when the round gets to one. My colt is in super. It will apply the same force but uses a ridiculous outrageous amount of support to do the same thing. So in this case for the newbie concealed carry holder the 357 mag will get the job done without the high level hocus pocus involved with the colt.
Ruger's 38+P revolver also is a good gun, you can do very well as a woman with this one. Wife carried that for a while. But primarily a bedroom gun for her. The one revolver that gets my goat which I go crazy over is the old S&W 325 (Aka thunder ranch) of all things which reaches back to when the Law carried revolvers, but has a total focus on fighting. Not for show or fluff.
The United States Marine Corps at one time in the MARSOC has examined the Colt Railgun as a potential replacement service wide for the old Beretta 9mm I believe. Which was one of the reasons I bought mine. Maryland I think maintains a list of weapons, handguns in particular that is banned in their state and unfortunately I believe that colt is on there. If I had a lawful national carry or a Maryland non resident license, that gun will get me arrested.
Here in Arkansas the people are total Glock country. 9mm land. They like to tease me that I will jam now and then when they never jam. (Ive seen a couple do jam... and what jams...) I just smile and take the teasing and stick with what I know.Whiteline64 Thanks this. -

Two accidents in one day.
2 wounded when gun goes off in car at Sam Rayburn HS -
Guns don't just "go off". SOMEBODY pulls the trigger, either on purpose or by accident. If by accident, it shows carelessness and improper handling as fingers should never be placed inside the trigger guard unless aimed at a target you intend to perforate. Either that or carelessness and improper carrying, allowing an object (such as a pen, keys, lipstick, etc.) to find its way inside the trigger guard. This can easily happen when carried loose in a purse or pocket. Simple solution there is a pocket holster that encloses the trigger. Guns designed with thumb safeties are less likely to AD in this manner, and one step further is a grip safety...but common sense and safe handling practices will prevent 100% of these "it just went off" type incidents.
