I know Fedfreight was Viking freight at one time because I used to drive for Viking Freight and now watkins is Fedexnational. What is the difference? They both are hiring in my area. I know Fedfreight is LTL but what is National?

FedEx Freight is formerly Viking Freight and American Freightways. FedEx National is formerly Watkins. Freight is the premier carrier for all points in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Specializing in next and second day markets. National is the premier carrier for all points in the U.S. Specializing in long haul markets.

Also difference is how fast their trucks go and what kind of truck you drive. LTL(Watkins) did not change the speed on their trucks to go as fast a the other FedEx. I asked about this once when I was dropping my company trailer there and they said it had been decided when they merged to leave LTL as it was.

Why they aren't combined I'll never know. Seems like a pretty weird strategy to me.

FED EX National and Freight Merger are requiring line drivers to work the dock and putting dock workers into driving positions which in turn are accidents waiting to happen and are happening. Go figure!!!! With the merger inexperienced drivers are getting mileage runs and experienced line drivers are required to work the dock. How absurd is that????

That's not entirely correct! It's all based on job class seniority. At FedEx Freight all line drivers are only required to work the dock based on the length of their run, and all shuttle drivers!
But you are correct about the dock workers becoming drivers. FedEx has moved away from full-time dock help where possible. So many have signed up for driver training to keep their full-time status and benefits.
