I am severely underimpressed, how long do they think they will get away with charging us double for trailer pool, increasing our fuel costs, paying more for purchased power, charging us triple charges for e-log and not giving raises for years?

This year alone I heard of companies changing an array of things from fuel programs taking away discounts to the owner operators to charging eld user fees weekly and just increasing overhead to the owner operators. I don’t understand the why drivers lining up at these companies and giving up all that revenue. These companies don’t appreciate them nor do they have to when there’s a line of greenhorns showing up every day.

Road Runner has to be about one of the wordt companies out there. You have to fight for your pay, beg to stay loaded and you get over charged for everything!

On the elog thing, do you have any options besides purchasing from/through them? If not, that is a direct violation of the federal leasing regs. I have left 2 carriers now following changes in company policy that would force me to pay for their decision to run electronic logs. The first was 3 years ago when the company made the choice to go elog. This weekend, I'm scraping the name & numbers off for the 2nd, who with the mandate decided it would be OK to force a specific system upon contractors and bill us for the subscription. Sorry, but you don't have that right. I will comply with the law, and the law says I don't have to buy ANY product or service from you or through you. That hasn't changed, even with the eld mandate. And it ISN'T their truck, it is mine. As such, I have the right to say "you aren't tearing my dash apart to run wires, and you aren't punching holes in my truck to mount the various components".

As far as the rest of it is concerned, you either agree to their terms or you scrape their info off your door and take your truck elsewhere. I wish more contractors across the industry would put their foot down and say "no" when carriers demand they buy crap from them.

The only good thing about Roadrunner is not fighting for pay, or for loads, paperwork in on time, paid on time, load planned early, preloaded early.

DOT & Leasing Regulations, Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association

§376.12 (i) Products, equipment, or services from authorized carrier— The lease shall specify that the lessor is not required to purchase or rent any products, equipment, or services from the authorized carrier as a condition of entering into the lease arrangement. The lease shall specify the terms of any agreement in which the lessor is a party to an equipment purchase or rental contract which gives the authorized carrier the right to make deductions from the lessor’s compensation for purchase or rental payments.

One other thing to look at:

Appeals Court Blocks TransAm Trucking Satellite Communications Fee

“Motor carriers that charge owner-operators for satellite or ELD usage should review their operating agreements to ensure they include required disclosures and offer owner-operators necessary freedoms when it comes to the purchase of services and products.”

...in other words, if they want to insist upon a specific system, you need to have the option to buy it on your own and subscribe to a service NOT through them. If they use the Loves system, you need to have the option to buy it at Loves and pay the $12.95/month.
