Actually there is a mountain under which nuclear waste gets deposited in the old salt caverns in Nevada currently. It's expected to still be hot 10,000 years from now.
We should cover up the houses and so forth with solar. Or even drill copper metal 300 feet down into the earth (Backyards) and attach Stirling engines to them. Just the heat difference alone will power a home forever.
The windmills have been around for centuries. It's fortunate that the birds are pretty reproductive so that the percentage of losses is minimal.
The coal is on it's way out unfortunately. When it does get killed off, then the real challenges of power will kick in. At the moment there is about 40% give or take of that power from coal and enough under our feet for thousands of years. It would be a shame for it to go to waste.
The US Navy is working on power direct from the ocean. Toss a pipe into the sea and drink power. Literally. It wont be long before very long pipes go off the coasts everywhere to run the Nation.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
If they are sly they can double their money feeding electric batteries. If the price equals a fuel fillup... then there is no savings from a fleet cost point of view.

Yep
I actually think it's a good thing for the trucks that only do a few hundred miles a day. Whether or not tesla is the company to actually put the product out there and it works.... I have my doubts.
I don't think diesel is going away anytime soon. Even if we did curb our use, the price would fall accordingly, and it will still hold the title for the primary fuel. I could see a natural gas or propane + diesel hybrid for highway use before the full on electric for otr.Oxbow Thanks this. -
They will probably have energy packs like them cordless drills, just snap another pack in and business keeps on trucking.

Price will be much cheaper than fuel. No one has to touch it. It doesn't have to be hauled to the truck stop.
Large terminals will have chargers.
The pollution cut in population centers is a no brainer, and when the next big government administration comes in, they gonna ram it down everyone's throat that is a short hauler.
The glow from the smelters will illuminate the night sky. -

Birds are getting whacked by cars and trucks left and right, but building windmills crosses the line?Dave_in_AZ and Oldironfan Thank this.

Nuclear power is killing this planet more than it helps it.
