Former May Drivers Lounge...

Looking at May trucking..after running several months with May and staying out for 4 weeks at a time will they allow you to stay home for maybe a month straight once during the year? I guess you would lose your truck and have to start over when getting back. Would like to run hard most of the year but take an extended break once in a while.

 

So now that truckersteve is head of promotional media at Knight what memories do any body have of him at may..just wondering

 

I have an answer to your question, I started with May in March of 2011 as a new driver, It was my first load and I was headed to PA. They had given me a printout of my load with p/u and delivery date and times. I was a little nervous about my first load and if I had enough time to pickup drive to PA and deliver in the time they gave me. After loading my truck with our belongings for the road, my wife and I walked over to the drivers lounge and standing out on the deck was trucker Steve (I recognized him from watching his videos) . I decided to walk up to Steve and introduce myself and ask him some advice about my load. He was happy to help, he reassured me I had plenty enough time if I go this many miles a day I could easily make it. His advice really took the pressure off.
Then a little later he asked me and my wife to lunch with him and a friend, we accepted. What was unexpected after sitting down to order he offered to buy our lunch, he insisted. After lunch my impression of Trucker Steve was: He's a professional, he's generous and he is very knowledgeable.
I worked for May through 2015 never saw Steve again, but if I ever see him again, lunch is on me.

 

I started with May as a company driver. After 6 months I lease purchased a Freightliner. I paid it off on time and got clear title in my name only with no delay or problem. The shop mentioned that it would be a good time to sell as the truck was in very good condition for having 800,000 miles. I mentioned it to another driver and got a cash offer from a fleet owner. Sold it. I didn't have a truck! May offered to let me drive a company truck until I found one I wanted. I agreed and the put me into a 379 EXHD and I drove it for 8 months. I could have lease purchased it. It was a difficult to give it back but I chose another Freightliner. I drove it until I turned 62 and paid it off, got title, sold it and retired. I wish I would have gone to work for them sooner. What I did not like: Rand McNally mileage. Although it didn't prevent me from completing the lease purchase(s) successfully. I worked for them with a positive attitude. They are fair and honest in their business dealings. I don't know how elogs will affect leasers or company drivers but likely not good. Government seems to always make things worse.

 

that's cool of trucker Steve he had to be making money with his recruiting and his business back then. between his YouTube and podcast back then he came off as prick. I guess he gone through a lot of women over the years. the funny thing since being with knight everything from the old days are gone off the internet tried to stream his pod cast yesterday and its gone I did a bunch last year while I was driving but the funny part is the info said it was archive a week after that..lol
