Amtrak is run and insured by the federal government so it’s yet to be seen if ( or how much) they’ll pay out.

If I am not at fault for the accident, just put me back where I was just prior to the accident (fix my car or replace as close as possible, cover medical) and we're good.

Just like when my Buick got rear-ended by a pick up truck. Buick was totaled, so got another (one year newer, couldn't find one the exact year), same options (except power moonroof. New one doesn't have that), same trim level. Even the same color. Medical covered. I'm good! No major or minor changes in my life due to the accident, no outstanding bills related directly to the accident, no need to try and grab the 'Big Payday'.

This particular site I linked to, contains people directly involved in some cases running trains as locomotive engineers of both Steam or Deisel and some are dispatchers controlling train movements. The bulk are like myself who are hobby people who have studied trains most of our lives. However, this site is not like most of the internet. It is well moderated and is a pretty seriously valid source of information that comes out rather well when things do happen. I have been with them for many years and it's a very good site that deals with real world train things as they happen.

Actually there was a form of Positive Train Control available but not active that day. In the near future trains in the Lower 48 states will generally have a more advanced form of remote control from dispatchers capable of slowing or stopping them remotely.

I had a totaled truck not too long ago, insurance asked me if I wanted to replace the entire frame on it. I told them no thanks, cash me out. So they did.

Ive owned buicks in the past, they are good cars but have one little flaw. The engines require excessive RPM to reach torque, something like 3200 and high horse is all the way to 5 or beyond. I wonder if Buick was able to build better engines that reach torque and high horse faster with lower rpm needs?

Mine has the newer 3.4L V6. Haven't noticed excessive torque with it. Nor with the older one's 3.8. But these are 2012 and 2013 models respectively.

Like most crashes it was preventable by one of the parties involved.
