On these ELD's that use your cell phone I am wondering what kind of a increase in your cell phone bill ?
Heard some Drivers that were not to happy with the setup that was dropped on them Monday. They all got a brand new $ 700.00 tablet the company will begin to deduct this Friday from their settlements . Ah the joy of being a O/O !!

For the record: company bought the ELD, I bought the interface, (in this case a 7" tablet. No way am I hooking my phone to this nonsense) company provides a dedicated data line via the ELD. Stupid tablet keeps updating software though the company line so it's a pretty solid connection.
Your mileage may vary with other companies, but hey! We're hiring! -
Just refuse any OS or app update requests and you might be okay for a while. Only move to new OS version if the app developer tells you to! Consider those tablets dedicated for eLogs and don't try to run a lot of other BS apps on it. Also remove ALL the other BS apps on it that you don't absolutely need for the ELD operation. -

The data amount used is very limited. Even when I was on keep Trucking I only used about an extra 150mb per month. In this day and age of every carrier offering unlimited data, the only reasons i can even fathom to not have an unlimited data plan is you're very frugal, or You live off grid, and if you live off grid, you wouldn't be driving a truck

I recommend getting the cheapest, smallest tablet you can find (there was a sale on 7" tablets as the new model was a 9" from the same maker) strip all the software from it and use that as a dedicated ELD interface.
That way you don't have to give the LEOs access to your personal phone when reviewing your logs. So what if I have "Naughty Houswives" and "420 connection" apps on my phone? None of their business.
(Actually, I don't, but I can't wait for the stream of posts from rookie/idiot drivers who give their phones to cops and have unsavory things uncovered) -
