My dad was type 2 diabetic, his A1C had hit 8.3. Doc said any higher and he would be put on insulin. He went almost zero carbs, eating only chicken steak fish and eggs. it dropped in 6 weeks down to 6.2. A few months later it was down to 5.8. This is after struggling to keep it in check with medicine for 18 years. He also lost from 210 down to 179, his cholesterol numbers improved significantly too.

Try low carbs for a few months if you can, and I bet it will drop. Carbs spike your insulin, so without them, your A1C will drop.

Foods to limit also include fruit. Portion control, 10 grapes, 1 sm orange or apple, etc. Stay away from juices and all canned soda pop with sugar. Try to follow diabetic food exchanges, not sure what you would be allowed for your size and weight, but 11 bread/carb exchanges a day is counted as each portion as 1 exchange, (1 sl bread, 1/2 bowl- 3/4 bowl of dried cereal, 1 sm potato, 1/2 c cooked rice or noodles, 1/2 c beans, 1 sm sweet potato, 1/2 med banana, 10 potato chips, etc). When you run out of exchanges for the day, you are out. Protein exchanges could be around 6 or so a day. 1 oz of meat equals one exchange, 1 oz cheese, 1 egg, some dried beans. Vegetables that don't have a lot of carbs such as green beans, spinach, turnip greens, squash, etc, are good choices. Some are counted as a free food such as cucumbers, lettuce, onions, mushrooms. Don't don't go overboard with the dressings.
Don't know if it would help, but if you can get A1C down, and drop even 5lbs, the dr could change you to no insulin. The A1C is a record of a three month period, not like a daily testing which could be way up or way down.

I did the same thing, but I ended up with fatty liver disease cause of it. A lot of low carb food is high in saturated fat. Make sure he is watching both.

What worked for me is seeing a nutritionist. When I started seeing her, she opened up my world as to what I could and could not eat and what I needed to eat to lose weight.

His total cholesterol did jump up at first, so he lowered his egg intake and it came back down to around 180. He had a full blood panel run last month and all his numbers were really good, from bilrubin, hematocrit, ldl and hdl, iron levels, etc. He also started eating more chicken and fish for protein sources and less red meat. I think altogether he gets around 120 grams of protein a day, some healthy fats from nut butters and avocados, and his carbs from slow release types like rolled steel oats and only early in the morning. He kept losing weight to where he actually had to start eating some carbs to stifle it and gain a few back.

I eat turkey, chicken, fish, tuna, etc. An occaeional burger. I will do smoked sausage, bacon, and hot dogs, but they are all turkey based. Vegetables and some fruits. Wheat bread, and Halo Top ice cream. Just follow the portion sizes.

If one can't get their pills. Or they're too expensive or whatever reason.

Online pharmacies can get em much cheaper. Provided you don't need em right away.

I use a canadian pharmacy. They get my prescription mailed to me from the UK. For what i've ordered so far. Which hasn't been much.

There is ways of restoring the kidneys with a proper diet, all those ways take time and effort but if you look you can find the proper foods to eat and start the journey back, then you have to keep at it everyday, but there are ways to heal yourself, most of the pills the doctors prescribe are designed to keep you on them, if they cure you they will be losing a income stream so educate yourself and keep a journal of what you do so you know when something works, and everyone is different so it is not a one size fits all cure.
