First off, I don’t like ELD’s and don’t think I every will. But the date has come and gone and now they are required for most commercial vehicles. I keep hearing a lot of so called rumors about the “soft enforcement” so just want to start this post to try and get truth about hats going on out there. I’am a O/O with my own authority, and yes, I did not want to put one in my truck and still would like to throw it out the window. But they are here, and are not going away. I’am going to post some things I’ve learned in the last 8 days of having one, and things I see and hate “mostly from other drivers” about E-Logs.
1st. For all the O/O out there with their own insurance , if you think your “good to go” for 3 more months, think again. Call your insurance company and ask how much Log violations will increase your insurance next renewal. I’am not talking just violations, if they ask you for a ELD and you don’t have one and they let you go with a verbal warning, some states are putting this in their system for your insurance company to see. My insurance company sent me a e-mail last week stating this. You get 3 verbal warnings or 3 violations, this could cost you up $6000-7000 more over the next few years. I encourage O/O to check with their insurance company before they get burned in the long run.
2nd. The guys who drive threw parking lots at 4 mph to not start their Log, com on man! I watched 3 trucks do this yesterday, had to wait for them for almost 5 mins to pull out of my parking spot. It counted 45 seconds on my ELD to pull ot of the lot, if 45 seconds will make or break your day, go work a Mc Donald’s.
Would like to hear from others what they might know legal wise or just some of the ridiculous stuff they have seen.

It's a truck stop parking lot. You should be driving through them slow. I'm more concerned with the guys driving through the parking lot at 25+ to save 10 seconds.

I just turned my AOBRD on last Sunday. Like the OP, I could go without it. I've never been a hardcore abuser anyways, more 10/15 minutes here and there if I needed it.
I compare it to shuffling cards around on the table. I still have 52 cards and the AOBRD provides a couple of Joker cards to help along.
My observations this week were that I ran faster than I normally do and longer hours in some instances in order to position and set up for maximum efficiency the next day. It's not rocket science.
I experienced no difficulty in finding a parking spot in the usual areas.
Other than that. My productivity, nor my revenue was effected whatsoever. I did $6,200 in 47 hours on-duty/driving, which about $132 an hour to the truck.
