I have ran hard on paper logs for a long time. Many of us have.We also have picked up a large portion of the trucking industry slack .
Now it is up to the older trucks to do it.This industry is going to go thru a long process to get everything worked out. From the cops to us,from the receivers to the shippers....it will take a while to fix all this crap

There is rumors in trucking circles for a ELD for older trucks, I’ve said it before, a older truck might buy you a few years before they have a compatible ELD for 2000 and below, and there is already some that can, from what I’ve read, 2 years and there will be a mandate for older rigs.

Your missing the point, these guys are idle thru the lot. I don’t care who you are, that’s s to slow, I have to slow walk to go 3 mph.

I’ve ran ELD 7 days now, and I’am more wore out then I’ve ever been on paper. In my opinion it’s much safer taking my time and not worry about some clock controling my life. I’am away from home already, I rather work as much as I can and sleep when I need it, I know the robots that work for the “Mega Clowns” don’t understand self responsibility. But I’ve move past the ELD fight, time to contact your representatives in office and get the HOS fixed, and fine shipper/receivers for long hold ups.

The stop I was at, was at least 3/4 miles long from the driveway, I watched people walk past the truck it was so slow

Given the number of drivers that have been run over and killed in truck stops over the last few years, it really isn't.

But don't worry about me. I'll be slamming right up to the max governor for alla ya!

Wouldn't want ta hold ya back, after all! Them 45 additional seconds might be all tha difference in your schedule!

I do fine on ELD's with the current HOS rules, but would be OK with a once every 8 days exception to the 14 because occasionally stuff happens. I do appreciate that you have a rational view here. The HOS rules are where the argument should be instead of risking criminal and civil charges by trying to falsify paper logs.

This would have been part of the current mandate. ELD has been around since 1992. The reason this did not happen is agriculture, and small truck companies. I believe.

We need some kind of better split sleeper rule. The 14 hr rule is certainly not helping me. Case in point. Delivery 9 hours away at 0200. It is the day before and I am eligible to begin driving at 10 am. If I start now, I will be out of time at 12 am. Do I reschedule? Do I drive to receiver who has parking for trucks waiting to come in but not once empty? Or do I delay beginning my 14 hour clock until approximately 5pm? I was just in bed from midnight until 10 am. Or was I supposed to stay awake after the previous days shift so I can try to sleep during the day? What happens if I delay starting my 14 hour and experience an unexpected delay? There is not enough time to take an 8 hour break before arriving at the receiver. Forcing me to delay beginning my day.

This doesn't make sense but it is how I will do it. So it looks good on the computer. I know I won't be the only one.
