Ya that newer Petro I've stayed at once and they had 2security... one inside and one driving around the lot all night I didn't see any shady people in the lot. The 2 TA across from each other off of US 20 in Portage aren't bad either.

Someone had a key... The OEMs only make a dozen or less keys for every model they build. Not hard to get... Sad, but true. You pay $100,000 + for a truck, and you get better security protocols in an $18,000 Honda Civic.

You probably slept by the fence line with me not too far away maybe and we would not know it. I was in a old 83 freightliner white cabover most of the time in those days.
Hunts was truly bad in those days, I don't recall sleeping much. I remember that I would pull in late, say 1 am after coming up from baltimore after loading in the evening, then sitting in the drivers seat waiting for the sun to come up to unload. I remember that I would not be sleeping much until I got empty and back out of Jersey into either Maryland or PA. So that means I'll be up at least another day.
Hunts had a wonderful little eating place down in the middle of the east row which was not too bad then in between the recievers docks.
However that fence I remember by the street had many holes in it and in the summertime all sorts of people came and went. I did not carry a gun in those days, but had a nice blade in it's holster so they generally left me well enough alone.
It's unfortunate that the Hunts was the way it was back in the 80's for me because it influenced me quite a bit and not always in a good way. I will say that years later I would find a better people in that part of NY and they did much to.. make amends for the sins of others there. -
A lot of the megas like to order their trucks all keyed alike so that the shops only need a couple keys to open and start every truck in the fleet instead of having a drawer full of keys (or relying upon drivers to supply a key for them). So if you buy a fleet truck, anyone driving for that fleet (or who drove for that fleet during the era that truck was in the fleet) probably has a key that'll operate your truck. If the simple fact that probably 8-10 (or more) rookie drivers passed through the driver's seat coupled with the "extended" service intervals they run (because they know they'll be getting rid of the truck before those extended intervals bite 'em) isn't enough to scare you away from buying a truck from the megas, the possibility of a few thousand people having a key to your truck probably wouldn't bother you either.x1Heavy Thanks this.

Y'all don't know. Every truck has ghost in it! I'm convinced. There's been several times I've been sure someone had been in my truck while I's sleepin and not ever time did I find or believe what was missing or misplaced.

As I understand it, the only business they have in your truck is that if you log sleeper berth, they can check to see if you have bed linens. Otherwise, they can look through the window but they can't touch.
