I'm with the flexibility of HOS is bad. But we don't need longer HOS just so we can work for free more. And when is line 5 going to be on elog for personal conveyance?

I am not talking about longer HOS (don't Canadians can drive 14h?) but I want to take rest when I need to without making my job impossible to do.I am not starting work at 7 am everyday and shut down at 4 PM or whatever. I have delivery tonight at 3 am and only God himself knows how long will I be sitting there.

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

The elog didn't make you drive till you could barely keep your eyes open. You made that choice, not the elog. Nothing prevented you from pulling over and taking a nap but yourself.

You might have been legal to drive per the hos. If you were struggling to keep your eyes open you were not legal per the fatigue regulations.

    §392.3 Ill or fatigued operator.

No driver shall operate a commercial motor vehicle, and a motor carrier shall not require or permit a driver to operate a commercial motor vehicle, while the driver's ability or alertness is so impaired, or so likely to become impaired, through fatigue, illness, or any other cause, as to make it unsafe for him/her to begin or continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle.

Before elogs we had drivers drive all day and be ready for bed and then their dispatcher tells them to get moving because they have a hot load and they’ll have to create a log page after they deliver.

Drivers were only getting little cat naps here and there because they couldn’t say “No, I’m tired and I’m not going to drive” to some little geek dispatching them.
Elogs are needed, but so are drivers that can stand up for themselves.
Maybe elogs will push those drivers that always drive tired out of our industry.

So a load is worth your life?
    Some one else's possibly?
Or maybe just a life time injury perhaps?
Well maybe just a few months off?

Don't miss read that or misconstrue it. I am 100 percent in the there is no excuse to be late with a load camp. Unless it becomes a danger to others that have nothing to do with the situation. If you want to run the ragged edge fine, only thing is you can't guarantee to leave the public out of it. That's the time to let whom ever that wants whatever to #### purple twinkies and shut the hell down. Your next choice is take the full break or get the necessary rest to complete the job and violate the HOS. Either way I don't care. But to continue on when you can barely keep your eyes open under any circumstances is the wrong thing to do.

I agree it is risky,no doubt.I am only saying that one size fits all solution is not a solution.
