You can sure tell the guys that only know what their Qualcomm tells them and the ones that are truly involved in the trucking industry.

I have been on e-logs for 5 years and don't rush around like crazy. My truck is speed limited to 62 mph. I usually have my cruise set for 60 mph. I don't find it necessary to speed through construction zones, school zones, lower speed limit zones, etc.

I don't speed through construction zones, school zones or small towns... But, due to the freight I haul and the hours I work, speeding down the interstate is now a fact of life. Fix the HOS and allow me to stop the clock while I am in the sleeper, and I will be fine. Put it this way, my APU runs more than the ISX under my hood in any given week. My average length of haul is normally 100 miles or less. This past week, spent 6 days out here, total IFTA miles were 1,803, 350 of those miles were my personal use. So, 1453 miles in six days, that is 242 miles a day, and I am having issues. Just a fact of life I now have to deal with, including the two loads I lost that I would have normally taken. You cannot stuff the entire industry into a neat little box. It does not work that way.

Do what I do, go to Walmart and get a bottle of Melatonin, take five pills and hit the pillow. I'm getting a bottle before I leave out. If I am forced to sleep... Which I am, I need to sleep.

ITS NOT ABOUT PLANNING. It is about the hos not working in the oilfield. You don't get loads right after the other.

You get a load, spend about 6 hours for delivery. Get back, wait around and get another one 4 hours later. Well look here, I am already 10 hours into my 14 and I need 6 hours to deliver it.

I can take it, make to site to get it delivered. Going have to spend my 10 hours 100 miles from civilization. Its not bad planing.... It about getting every dollar you can from your time. So instead of driving 1 hour over what HOS says, I have to spend my 10 uncomfortable

Welcome to my world... And I don't go anywhere either... I used to work out of Fairview MT, just SW of Williston... HOS are the issue, not the stupid computer.

You will never get the people in the world of mega-carriers and pre-planned loads that haul stuff that's not time sensitive to every understand more then their computer tells them.

Oh they do understand very well but they want to "level the field". They don't care because they don't pay layovers to their semi slaves.Instead they advertise big screen TVs in their truck. Why would I need TV in the truck?I am out to make money,I can watch TV at home which is a much better place.

I feel ya partner. I haul frac sand. We get a lot of short hauls cuz they've put sand plants on every corner just about. Let's say I'm on a job that 30 miles from the plant to the well. Takes 20-30 min to load, 30 min to the well, 30 min to unload, and 30 min back to the plant. Complete circle in 2 hours. Problem is, a lot of these frac jobs don't use the sand that fast. I might wait 6 hours to unload. Then go get another load (2 hrs) then wait another 6 to unload. Job takes 2 or 3 days to finish. So I'm working 6 hours out of every 24. The other 18 hours I'm in the sleeper.

When I drive, I'm better rested than any of the 14-hour-a-day freight haulers I pass. I've slept so much I can't possibly sleep any more. Yet they're legal and I'm not because of the timing.

They call me an outlaw. They say it's guys like me that are the reason we have this mandate. I got my CDL in '96. Haven't had a single accident or ticket. Got a bunch of clean inspections and compliments from the DOT on my log book. But yet I'm the one in the wrong according to a lot of the guys on here.

So I give up. They'll never understand anything outside of what big brother says is safe.
