This is one of the options I've considered also. It's survival rate would be better on the driver's side though. Guess that would change the direction of your strongest signal.

I don't get you guys with this bed idea, it isn't like you would get the ground plane effect if it was on the bed or a mount.
-
Explain please.
-
Nothing beats the roof mount.
-
Nothing devalues a vehicle as much as drilling holes in it on purpose.
OK maybe crashing it or getting a hideous paint job lol -
First tim the value isn't going to be dropped that much with a cap over a hole.
Second the rf doesn't follow a specific predictable pattern with the other half of the rf signal. you don't need a flat ground surface to have an omnidirectional signal, with an uneven plane you will have degrading signals on one or a couple lobs but it will still be an effective omnidirectional pattern.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
As I've stated before; it won't hurt a pickup's value at all. Probably don't want to do it on your Vette or Caddy though!
-
All Im saying is that I wouldnt do it. If someone else wishes to open up holes on their vehicle I will respect their wishes
-
True. I got his meaning now. (I was tired last night)rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

If I had the Cadillac CTS-V which has a top speed of 200 miles per hour I don't think you'd want to drive behind me if I had a magnet mount since at that high speed the magnet would probably blow off my roof so in that particular case I would gladly drill a hole in the middle of that Cadillac roof.
