If you have 6 mo otr call GULLE, SISBRO, SHARKEY,or CORE. I worked for Covenant 3 1/2 years. IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER! The companies I have listed are all owned by Jack Sharkey of Quincy, IL. His dad was a trucker and founded Sharkey Transportation. They have freight up the butt. You get home every week and you make 'Guaranteed in writing by contract" $1000.00 a week. They have several different pay packages. INVESTIGATE EACH THOROUGHLY BECAUSE EACH GIVES YOU SOMETHING...and TAKES SOMETHING BACK. Stay away from any dispatcher that has GARY as the load planner!! You have that option!
They pay your insurance(includes family paid..won't cover mental or pre existing in most cases). ASK questions before you commit to 3 day orientation so you can save yourself a trip. YOU WILL GET HOME EVERY WEEK FOR RESET! They stack you 2-3 loads so you always know what's next. When you get time to check the routing (you do your own) if it can't be done legally you send them a message "CAN'T BE DONE LEGALLY" and they simply give you a new stack. FREIGHT UP THE BUTT AND IF YOU SAY IT CAN'T BE DONE LEGALLY you don't run illegally and you still get freight...BUT STAY AWAY FROM LOAD PLANNER GARY'S GEN'l Mills boards or everything I just said about legal, illegal and making money goes down the crapper. GOOD LUCK

Thanks VS, I have been looking to go back on the road, since local jobs here are drying up fast (unless you have more exp. than I've got!), and I was considering Sharkey. I have pulled a reefer (for Covenant) and I have no problem pulling one again.
MCR- stay strong Bro, things at Covenant change by the minute, as you already know! -
OK, HERES A QUESTION.... you show up to a customer, they are on a street that ---
cannot-- take a 53' trl and sleeper trk, they tell you that they have told this to covenant repeatedly and they still send trucks there.
if the truck and trailer were docked, it would cross the street and be in the other places driveway, plus you are now blocking the street, in case of an emergency, you are screwed....
next you qualcomm the dm, she does not reply, then you call her and she has an oh well attitude about it.........plus they will not pay extra to go to another warehouse they have to properly unload the product....
also, she's not interested in any more info as to the proper unloading point,.....
so, have i lost my mind or is this the norm now? i haven't ever had this problem before, really.
but then again let me put this in perspective: THIS IS WHAT WORKING AT COVENANT IS ABOUT.
no company support whatsoever, or care for safety, or care for the driver, yet they flock here like chicken to the feed to work here and train here......
swift was more professional than this.............so covenant can--- kiss my
it's amazing drivers don't go postal:smt068jadeshadowhunter Thanks this. -
Sorry to hear about your trouble MCR. Covenant used to use a company to deliver/pick up freight in the CT, NY, and NE area. I remember picking up a reefer load there (with my trainer) and another one with my Dumb-and-Dumber buddy. They used this company's services to avoid this exact scenario.
Sounds like the classic example of don't know, don't care, don't want to hear it...MCR6468 Thanks this. -
i hope that a new driver doesn't attempt to dock there if the dm says so,
thats when all eyes turn that way, and the magic question comes up---
why did you do that? and here comes the preventable.....:smt119
i'm seriously thinking that trucking has gone so far down the crapper, that next year i might just say adios..... and go flip burgers...no preventables there!!!!!!!!!!! -
If you plan on becoming a burger flipper, you better start studying the
Flipper-Flapper Handbook of Rules.
Pay special attention to the section on the 3-second rule.
I hear they're pretty strict in that department.
Hang in there, hombre.
For YEARS I've been told that the Big truck truckin' industry is gonna get
better. -
labor involved. -
I have to do that rather frequently with LTL deliveries. -
:smt066
some people actually believe that this semi is like a car, sure take it somewhere else...........
thats why i don't get involved in LTL .i got offered an LTL job once in fl paying $8.50 class -b-......not in this life!
ps: the truck was in front, and in the street...COMPLETELY. -
