Aggressive panhandlers, thieves, nut jobs, crackheads, riots, tornados, hurricanes, blizzards, power outages, fuel shortages, food shortages, road closures, solar flares, earthquakes....etc.
“I know! I’ll dial 911/AAA/Uber/ a wrecker/Walmart/Pizzahut”
The reason why so many fail at trucking is because they go into it like they’re going on holiday. Yeah, on holiday, you can get by with your cell phone and a credit card and flip flops. Heck, even I wear flip flops on holiday.
There are 2 kinds of drivers at the lunch counter...one tells war stories, the other tells horror stories. Every driver that’s been one the job for more than 5 years has War Stories, doesn’t matter if they’re local or otr. Know what that means? If you drive long enough, something bad is going to happen to you. 100% chance. Your skill with your gear or the truck, and your wits are what’s going to get you through.
Braindeads can’t think and so they are forced to sit back and rely on their desk jockeys travel agents to think for them. They sit there and wait and hold their pickle and watch My Little Pony or some other stupid thing. It is simply amazing the number of people that get caught in a hurricane and sit in a shelter hungry. You knew a week ago that Hell was coming and you still get caught? If you choose to be Stupid, do not expect any simpathy. Find your own way out.TaterFox, Dave_in_AZ, Hateful and 3 others Thank this. -
Here's a glimpse kid-
See this little container? This is stuff that breaks all the time. As well as it could leave you on the side of the road, it's ALL a DOT violation if bear wonders by, now your gonna have a bad day.
This little container is probably $100, maybe $150 stuff purchased at Wal Mart & Freightliner. Purchased at a truck stop it's closer to $400.
You get popped by the wrong guy at a scale.......that $12 light bulb may cost you in the neighborhood of $400 by the time it's all done, AND the job at the company you really want.TripleSix and Oldironfan Thank this. -
Think like living on a submarine. Look at my passengers seat. That's almost 20 moving blankets, water, and please pay attention to the large bag of fresh fruit within reach while I'm driving. Stack of napkins lol.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
This is a $150 flashlight. You don't need that right out of the gate. But you DO need a good flashlight. This should be like the first item on your list.

Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

I show that little container to bear when he does level 1 or 2 inspections, and they are always like "Ooooo A+" lol.
This job, this life, is filled with non stop things to do. It's all about effort. Put it in, and you'll live happily ever after.TripleSix Thanks this. -
