I found the best way was to turn the cruise control on and bring the engine up maybe another 50rpm's so your engine will not shut down. Real simple.
Should I put my foot down?

Thanks for the advice. I tried setting the cruise and I tried setting the gear in high and putting it in the slot but they don't work. I guess Werner knows all those tricks. I'll just keep bugging them I guess. Nice thing I suppose is that I've been running back and forth from El Paso and Phoenix pretty much all week, so no issues with the weather right now.
-
that's lame. I drove a 379 ( two of them, actually ) for May - and all I had to do to disable the shut-down was to hit "Resume" on the cruise control. Tranny has to be in Neutral, of course. Engine would rev up to about 800 and go until fuel ran out.
I'd suggest that maybe some shop monkey set it wrong - a simple stop at a shop should fix it in about 15 minutes. -
OK, finally got it. When the engine light starts to blink I press the clutch pedal, rev the rpms a bit and then set the cruise control. It works. Thanks for everyone's contribution on this and safe journeys to all

You can pull the fuse in the bunk and that will solve your problem. The computer sensor won't activate and the truck will stay running.
-
None of the newer trucks have a manual idle switch?
-
Must not. Even the ones my hubby has been in don't have one.
-
Mine shuts down at 5 minutes. There is no over ride option or choice.
If the APU dies, you cannot idle the truck to even get warm. The bunk heater does not work with the truck running. -
You may be able to override the shutdown by not setting the tractor brakes. NOT ADVISED IF BOBTAILING!!!!
-
Not even a possibility. It is controlled by the computer. Hooked up to a trailer, left the trailer pulled and was out picking up when I got a call. It took a few minutes and then the truck shut off.
