Which Omnitrac is that? I didn't realize they were that expensive. I know Landstar charges 750-800 if you lease to them now. I think Mercer charges 550-600 for the Omnitrac. It must be a different unit than what you are using.

Don't need cell reception to get GPS. It doesn't have to be uploaded immediately,, but it does have to get the GPS. If it cannot for whatever reason it's not a compatible ELD.
Have 24 hours to certify, but you still have 13 days to send that data in.

I was thinking this also. I spent most of my waking moments in December installing Omnitracs. $799 is the retail cost of the newest one. I know they used to be a lot more when they had to have that white dome on the back of the truck and such. Monthly service is $23 and up depending on what apps you add to the account.

Isn't that price also dependant on which particular model of omnitracs is purchased? I know their cheapest and most glitch ridden model is the mcp50, garbage little touchscreen piece of ####. I have the mcp150, I believe that the most recent model is the mcp200 or 250

IVG is newest model. I do not know what anything that starts with "MCP" costed when they were being sold new as they are no longer sold new from the factory. We installed some MCP-50's last month that drivers bought in second hand but I don't know what they would have cost when new. MCP-50 was little harder to install because it has an interface box and an extra square satellite antenna. IVG is easier - all one piece, like an 8" ruggedized tablet. The MCP-50's worked fine but the IVG definitely has faster guts, sharper screen, etc. But such is technology year-to-year. Anyway, I think the MCPs were more expensive for the hardware than IVG.

Imagine that, would think that the newest breeding would be more expensive. We still run the 200/250. System just works and we still have older ones. I would imagine eventually they will be forced to upgrade

I'm sorry, I should have clarified my post with details.

My cost is per truck includes the unit, install and the spreading the costs of integration with my back office system plus the actual costs to move the truck to get it install and all the other incidentals (driver pay).

The actual costs of just the units are about $750 each, another $150 to $200 to install and another $75 to fix the install if it is done by the "carrier's" preferred installer.

Hardly anyone will look at the total cost to the unit, they don't consider time and money that it costs outside the unit.

I get charged per truck up front for the access I need to get the raw data for the company. They offer other alternatives but the problem is I don't want to have a web based system to have to log into when I need a pull of data to update my numbers then have to down load the numbers, put it into my system.

I have three models I use, IVG and two of the MCP. I also have peoplenet which is even more money and a PIA.

I try to make the back office as simple and as automated as possible for those who are running it and for my own sanity. I am a numbers person, so I hate ambiguity with them.

Ok, that helps a lot. The part I don't understand now is what you said right here. What does this mean? You get charged by whom for access? What is "your system" that you are entering "raw data" into? I'm trying to maybe help you because I have worked with Omnitracs integration to other back-ends in the past and could maybe point you in the right direction. Are you saying that you ARE the trucking company? Or are your a 3rd party trying to pull log data from the trucking company clients?

    TMELD - ELD

It has some quirks. Works better from a tablet than your phone. Well maybe not better,. just less annoying.

I prefer this one because from the admin panel,.. I can edit line 3. You can edit everything the same as like paper,.. the only exception is that you can not change an on going event with out first stopping or changing it. This is as close to electronic paper logs as I can get.

This is what my driver uses. He has had 3 inspections so far with elogs,.. no violations. He said they dont use the inspection mode on the tablet. Instead they take the tablet and have the current and previous 7 days of logs emailed and then they go over the logs on their computer.

The only gripe he has is that occasionally after he goes on duty for PTI and then starts driving,.. it doesnt recognize movement and he has to reboot his tablet before it will start recording drive time. Says its good for about 2 weeks and then he will need to reboot the tablet to make it work again. The rest is just remembering to change or edit duty status when needed.

Keep Truckin was a PITA with lost connectivity and blutooth dropping,.. no ability to edit or correct line 3 with out contacting customer service. Incorrect events popping up. Stop n go traffic it would nag and ask if stopped constantly.
