That smoke is unburned fuel. The screen element the glows and burns the fuel is probably caked with soot & dirt. Second problem is the vent hole is probably plugged with soot & dirt.
It's not even cold in Texas.

Here's an important tip for when you get it serviced( cleaned) make sure you let it burn off after you turn it off before you start your truck this go a long way in preventing it from getting clogged up in the future. It usually takes 2 to 4 minutes.
You can usually here when it stops after you trun it off , if it's noisy where you at just put your hand by the vent and wait for it to stop.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
