Im a rookie driver, 8 months under my belt. Im driving an older Kenworth pulling crib trailers loaded with wood. I noticed that the farthest to the back of truck torsin bar running east & west is bad. Where the bar is mounted there is cast aluminium, the aluminium is breaking a part. I know this is not good but dont know how bad this is. Is it unsafe to drive. 20171229_054314.jpg

It's easy to replace. When you pull the two bolts holding the stabilizer bar it will slide out. Just get a replacement slip it back in and tighten bolts back up and hammer down.

I say drive it home and then replace it. It can be a hassle if it has pressure on it. Unless you have fear of the pin breaking through the eye rock on. Picture does not do me much good. Good Luck.

To start with I thought the op was talking bout the bar itself but after reading again he says aluminum piece. So it’s the piece that spaces the bar off the frame rail. That’s a super easy fix, like 10mins if you have the part laying there and the the bolts aren’t froze into the aluminum spacer.

Yeah nothing wrong with your torque arm. It' is the aluminum spacer between it and frame. Kw used those a lot on older trucks. Replace it with a steel one and never have that issue again. Not a big deal. A good 3/4 impact and a 15/16 wrench should do it.

To start with I thought the op was talking about a torsion bar suspension. No springs or air bags but the old KW torsion bar suspension. Then I looked at the picture and decided he was talking about bushing in his air ride suspension. Jake is probably correct since one nut has threads sticking through it and the other does not. So it has probably been run loose, needs new spacers and hopefully the frame is not hurt.

It' is the torque arm going from the rear end housing to the frame. It keeps the axle in line . Nothing to do with his air ride. It' is an older KW with prob ag100

It is the aluminium spacer. Im just wondering what will happen when the spacer is completely gone and that torsion bar is loose and free to move.

Object is to replace it before it gets that bad. Called preventative maintenance.
