You got it. All Jakes do is basically turn the engine into a big air compressor. They do not wear out. They also don't sound cool on a muffled engine, you can barely hear them since the muffler does its job and muffles the noise. Mine stay on 3 but do not engage out of gear or below thirty. I agree there's nothing like the sound of some jakes with 6" straights, but if we all had that setup jakes would be illegal everywhere.

WHen I hear the jakes come during a shift, I just think its another rookie getting ready to drop a tranny. Personally I would fire you if I caught you doing it to my truck. I have installed a switch on the floor you have to step on to activate the jakes, because drivers by in large are too lazy to turn the jakes off. This way you have to intentionly depress the jakepedal (switch). Making them slave off the brake system would not make sense out here in the west.

I dissagree with you on the employer knowin u did it since you leave the jake switch on when you park the truck cause mines is on 24/7. I shift without the clutch an if you shift without lettin off 100% of the fuel, the jake will not come on. You need to let off enough for the rpm to drop......99.9% of the way, an u wont have the jake come on.

As far as Ive always known hearin the jake while upshiftin is a sign of a bad driver(not cool) Dont get me wrong I love the sound of a nice jake!

It's the sign of a billybigrigger-type showoff. True talent is becoming a driver and not a steering wheel holder.

True talent is showing consideration to your fellow drivers....

....Unlike the MTS driver who decided to pass me on I-69 Friday afternoon... on 2 inches of choppy ice.... with only about 1/2 a hammer lane.... Yeah I really enjoy driving on the shoulder.

A monkey can learn timing tricks such as those required to jake shift a truck. Real drivers have brains and use them.

Which is one of the qualities of a true driver. Steering wheel holders? Notsomuch.

This is why you see so many little towns with no Jake brake signs.
Jakes are for coming down grades, not for making a lot of racket.
