Someone tell me what they do in the winter months to help prevent gelling.
I live here in Minnesota, and the past couple weeks has been a nightmare.
What fuel do you use, what anti gel ect?
Biodiesel? Number 1? Number 2 treated?
    Thank You!

Even #1 is only good down to about 10. You have to run additive and always have an extra bottle on you. I use power service white bottle and below zero you double the dose as per the instructions. Also, if you don't have a winter grille cover, get one. The grille covers help a lot in keeping the engine hot.

i have used howes, trk sat in -15/-20 for almost 10 days an started. i find most people dont seem to prefer it but its worked for me. most companies use other stuff tho. ive bought the howes and got it goin thru the system a day or 2 before i was gonna be somewhere that cold and havnt had a problem in any of the cold states and usually got whatever fuel they had at the pilot/j in whatever state i was in.

i had a local job and we parked all of our trucks on a hill where it was windy, when it got to be -10 then add the wind chill is when we would see problems, i think the key is to chk the weather and get it running thru the lines and filters ahead of time. i took a trip once out and back and knew cold weather was coming and our trks would be sitting that nite, most of the trucks gelled up, mine didnt, i have never gelled up, the key i believe is planning ahead for it, not just dumping it in the tanks after you fill up the day its gonna be that cold

Just use winter fuel. We never treat fuel and rarely have issues. It regularly hits -30 up here in winter.

Try the grille cover; it even helps with the cab heat level.
(I thought winter fuel is treated already?)

Sounds bad until you move to Alaska or Siberia however it does get cold in MN thats for sure other then using gel in your fuel your only other choice is to keep your engine running for most of the time i mean its ok to switch if off for a few hours your fuel won't freeze straight away, however best to keep it warm not sure what temp diesel will be at while running would be interesting to see how long it does take to freeze up or turn to gel

you should have a seaparate fuel heater, and/or you should have a filter housing with a heater in it. the racor greenmax has both a 12v heater and runs the hot return fuel thru it.

Buddy of mine made one of those Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) diesel VW Jettas. Two fuel tanks.
Put a copper coil under the WVO tank, and ran it to the Heater core tubing with a tee fitting.
Just took a quart of epoxy and mixed it up and smeared it under coil, stuck it on bottom of tank,
then stuck glob of epoxy on saran wrap, and molded it over coil on the outside. Looked professional.
    Easy, clean, good looking fix.
