I've just been doing Hotshot OTR for 12 years now. I have cdl's but have air brake restriction so the state told me I was going to have to take the entire test again so it is basically like I'm starting over. I have zero experience in a Class 8 truck so I am a rookie driver but I'm not rookie enough in the head to be driving for what these companies like Pam and Dart want you to do $0.28 a mile they can keep their trucks and their Freight. Before I do that I will take out a loan and just go by a 1-ton and go back to work before I go back to $30,000 a year and never seeing the house.

. I asked both people that I spoke with how much the training cost if I get fired or decide to quit after 2 or 3 weeks and they said nothing. Then I asked how long is the contract that I have to sign is for and they said one year. Honestly if this is true what both of these people are telling me anybody could go up there and do their training and get a little pee and rip them a new ###.

True, but they will start sending demand letters for payment and they could even probably tack onto your credit file.... just something to think about! But honestly, if they put money into you, and do what they say for the most part... a year is nothing when your new. My first year went by and I got a letter thanking me for my service and I would have sworn I was only there 7/8 months! It cost big money, so do your part if they do theirs

Ok, if the recruiter says so then it must be true.
Trust me,there's a contract hidden in there somewhere
that you're going to have to sign.

What's to stop you from using them to get your license,
then hopping on a bus home to get a local job.
Between pay and training they just gave you 5 grand
And got nothing in return. There not stupid.

    Ill leave it at this,
From a old timer, drive your own car there no matter
What they say. Then if something goes sideways your
Not left out on the curb with all your stuff and you have
    A ride home.

I and and many others have been left on that
curb with all are belongings and a stupid look
on our face. But they only get us once.
After that you learn how to weed thru the bull crap
    that their selling.

If you plan on going OTR for a year then none of this is a
    issue.

They can't say you owe nothing if you quit or get
fired, then on the other hand have you sign a one year
    Contract. It makes no sense.
Why bother with a contract if you can just quit and leave.
Trust us. Your gonna pay for that school one way or another.

This I would agree with, always have a “get home plan” if it’s too far to drive make sure you get it in writing about getting you home.... I have seen more than a few drivers begging for rides at the truck stops! And by the way, never ever for any reason just Load a warm body up in your truck and drive with them, this is a big no no with almost all companies and is even a federal law, you must have permisssion of the company to have a passenger! Short trip emergencies excluded... but you better document it!

There is definitely a one-year contract just like the rest of the companies like that but I can't get them to tell me that I would owe any money if I did leave they keep saying no. As shady as it sounds I'm going to call tomorrow and act like a different person but with a little bit of information and ask them or question. I hate to be Shady like that but this is a big part of my life you know I got kids in college I can't play around and get mad and burn somebody's building down because they told a lie LOL.

I looked it to online when I first started driving but I also had just gotten my CDL. At the time I would’ve had to sign a 1 year contract for training. I passed because I didn’t want to sign a contract. Wasn’t a good fit for me but it might be for you. You gotta find what works for you.
I see a lot of their trucks around Augusta, GA. When I was OTR I used to see a lot of them around Kentucky and Indiana (they’re based there so go figure lol). From what I’ve seen the trucks aren’t the newest. There’s a mix of some newish trucks and some old ones. I’ve seen quite a few freightliner Columbias and volvos. I’ve seen a couple trucks that seemed to be former Walmart trucks. The trailers seem to have some age on them. With all that being said, don’t let it deter you. Just because a truck or trailer has some age on it doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s all how it’s maintained. I dont know how they maintain their fleet so I can’t speak for that.
I would look at some other companies to compare and see what works best for you.

Best of luck to you and be safe out there!

That's what I was thinking truckguy391. I'm in Greenville South Carolina and live close to the highway when I sit on the porch I can see the trucks go by. I see them every now and then running up and down 85. From what they was telling me 80% of their stuff is regional and home most weekends like everybody tries to say. In the last five years they have purchased two other smaller companies like their self but it's been a couple hours since I read it so I don't remember the name of them and that's where they got some of their newer Volvo's from. Personally would the deal like this if it's true I can deal with some old trucks and trailers. I would rather have better starting pay than a better-looking truck myself I don't have to have Chrome stuffed up my butt. To me honestly as long as it runs what difference does it make what it looks like or how new it is it's not your truck anyway lol. I definitely do not want to sign a contract with anyone but after I paid $8,200 for my oldest daughter's tuition there's not much I'm going to buy. My best bet would be that this thing tomorrow morning at the employment office would work out with the W.I.A grant
