I've jump started a friend's truck off a Honda Civic. Took about 20 minutes to get enough juice to the batteries.

Knock on wood I won't ever have to jump my own truck. I bought heavy duty jumper cables to help start another friend's truck about three years ago and have used them several times to help out fellow truckers and civilians since then.

What ever time it takes for your warm fuel to turn from running liquid to gel i had no problems switching my truck off for a few hours as it would not freeze that quick however i wouldn't leave it off for much longer unless i'd had some other means to keep it warm. On a side note it really amazes me just how many drivers don't prepare their trucks to run in colder conditions.

    RedForeman and Lepton1 Thank this.

Was at a Flying J in Kansas City, MO 2 days ago... The water for the store froze that night, half the fuel islands were turned to a skating rink!! Got down around -5F I think... In the morning several drivers were waiting their turn for the truck service to come get them going. I wasn't worried as I heavily treat my fuel with isopropyl alcohol, I didn't idle that night and it fired right off in the morning, no problems. 15 or 20 mins to warm up and down the road I went.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

When it gets cold, for those of you running DEF, make SURE you keep your DEF topped off. DEF is the first to freeze and the DEF pumps become inoperable.

If you don't do that, then plan on buying the ####ty "DEF in a box" and filling 2.5 gallons at a time in the cold. Been there.

So I've been seeing a couple posts on FB saying TA/Petro are not treating their fuel. So when I stopped at a petro I Wilmington IL, I asked the manager on duty about it. This location treats their fuel, but she did say that an email came out today from Corp saying the def in IL, IA and IN locations were frozen in the tanks.

    RERM and Lepton1 Thank this.

    What's wrong with this picture?

It's in the mid 30's when you choose a place to park. It's projected to get down to 13°F tonight. Instead of choosing a bone dry parking spot 100 yards from the entrance to the amenities, you choose to park as close to the entrance as possible...

    ...in 1" of standing water...!!!???
