Hey guys, I was trying to see if anybody has a good source for researching bridge hights over 13’6” for each state. Some states seem to list the bridge heights, some I cannot find. I do not like to just go off my permit for information. As I have been wronged by a permit in the past, and had to call DOT to shut down the interstate as I drive in reverse. Some states don’t even give a route, such as Tennessee. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont do a lot of over height. But I typically start with Rand McNally Road Atlas.

Then for first and last mile points or any 2 lanes,.. I will use Google Satellite and street view.

I had a machine sitting up at 14'2 coming out of the Detroit area,.. saved my tookus with all the bridges there under 14'.

You can see SOME also in the Truckers Path app. Not sure how credible a source it would be, on planning an entire route, but ya never know.

My ran McNally road atlas focuses on low bridges that are still within legal limits. I Travel across country over size And I’m looking for bridge lights that are taller than legal height.

That’s where I got in trouble, Detroit. Route took me through the city even though there is a little bridge in front of me. That’s why the DOT said they didn’t give me a ticket. Because I followed the permit even though it was wrong, and did not hit the bridge.

Each states DOT website is fairly decent from what few I've seen (ND, MN, WI, IL). I've never had to plan an over-height route through the US before but the resources *should* be out there.

From what I saw in Google street view,.. all of the bridges in Detroit were plainly marked and had signs before you came up on them.

But with bridges in height between 13'4 - 13'9,.. and lots of them its best to set a route and know before heading out.

I also have the Garmin 570 and its pretty good (For the most part) about refusing to route under a height you set in the parameters. Say I am 14'2,.. I will set 14'4 and using all of the resources at my disposal,.. I'll make way points and the GPS will let you know real quick if there is something irregular along the route. Dont blindly follow the GPS,.. its just a tool to help aid you.

Let the states route you and you should have little problems, been routed twice to bridges that I couldn't clear in the last 25 years.
I run a lot over 15 high, I worry more about the wires and traffic lights.
Tennessee will route you if you are over height.
Most problems come when you have problems following their routing. Some transitions can be hard to understand, especially in
    Texas.

For what it's worth Tennessee WILL route you when you're over height.

Ontario will give you a paper list of all clearances along your route if you ask. Maybe other states are the same?
