Does anyone know about Schneider?

    I don't have insight to leasing at Schneider; however I will give relate my experience working for them as a Team Driver. They were very good trainers, and emphasize safety as you continue on as a Driver. On the other hand; sort of have a Gestapo mentality where they like to "push the driver's around" too much; they don't always do what they say they will, and at least in my case in team driving they were often confused and befuddled. For example, I would often get assignments to go pick up empty trailers where there were none; or at address that did not even exist and it was very wasteful and dangerous. I would never drive for them. Again, it is one persons experience take it for what it is worth.

    thanks for your advice hey what trucking companies and if u can give names where I can pick my loads like from a load board and call brokers to negotiate price on a load and not dispatched by some mad dispatcher

    Freightwipper it sounds like you have good experience. I am considering being an owner op. If you wouldn't mind some advice to someone who: has 3 years exerpience OTR as a Van driver and a perfectly clean record. I want to drive solo; live in SD and can drive most anywhere but have no interest in the N.E. USA. I gather I should buy or finance my own truck. Beyond that any advice from you or anyone who has good knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Won't get into the new/used truck debate. Biggest thing do not lease onto a carrier where you'd rely on them for your freight.
    No $1 a mile mileage pay and we dispatch you or % when you and only stuck with their freight.

    Get your own authority or lease onto someone to that allows you to book in the open market, that way you remove the ability of a carrier to screw you on loads.

    There are a lot of good small carriers out here that pay a higher percentage than the big companies and give you a lot more availability and freedom. Remember this comes with the caveat however, with that freedom comes great responsibility.
    Your insurance, maintenance, ,fuel, taxes payroll, all of it. Wanting to be careful of the big carriers who pay percentage is that they will not show you an actual rate confirmation sheet without a fight. What that means is you have no idea what they are actually collecting on that load. The law states you have every right to see that sheet, however, you may not have a job after you request it. Do not get suckered into financing Insurance, 2290, and tags with the carrier. Pay for that upfront out-of-pocket each year. Otherwise you become beholden to that carrier. Yes there's a lot of money being spent before you make a single penny. Welcome to being self-employed.

    Thanks for the complement I personally have been gathering info about the trucking business for the past 2 years from sources like this platform here Trucker Report, Google, You Tube etc.,there is excellent advice on You Tube from real drivers who started being company drivers and have transition in to being O/O i will recommend you to go to you tube and listen to o/o like Jeffery Like,woody,,LoShawn Parks, Snorelord,So Cal, & Lil Dawg and many more that are using You Tube platform to tell their experiences allthese drivers are legit and are on You Tube, yes some of them got weird names on You Tube but they are for real, my favorite is Jeffry Like if you have time look up his videos when he was @ Schneider, he explains very well the difference between, doing a lease & buying practically it depends on your financial situation, business plan, figuring your cost per mile for all this to work I hope this works good luck with your business plans.
