Armellini, used to get some good money on their loads. $2 - $3 a mile + stops back in the early 90's. Light loads, in my case, dropping at florist shops in the middle of the night. Hit the dock, secret code, in the door, hand unload to the walk in, leave the bills and off to the next victim. Worth every penny.

If you live near Tampa, on Columbus & 50th st is CTL/CCC. CTL is a local chemical tanker company that trains drivers on 5 & 6 spd MACK trucks. You must have a HAZMAT endorsement. It not a OTR and they are not 9-13 spd trucks, but they can give you the experience you need to start, be home everyday, pay is not bad for economy compared to OTR training pay. The dispatcher and the rest of the Admin staff were really easy to get along with and as long as you stay within your 12 hr time frame of driving daily, you can make extra money by pulling another load. They pay by load, not by mileage. Slip seating trucks as well since they run 24/7 365. You work 5 nights a week with a guaranteed 2 days off a week, but I sometimes volunteered to work a 6th day just to make extra $$.
CCC in the same terminal lot does the OTR, but very few are hired to that job as the positions are filled. I drove for CTL until I went back into the Navy. I went through National Truck School in Green Cove Springs, FL and the Navy paid for it, but I liked driving locally and it kept my skills up as a driver. Not by the experience you would receive OTR and shifting with gears higher than 6, but with daily traffic and sometimes hitting the interstate, was not so bad.
A job is a job, especially in these times. Hope this helps. -
armellini run teams only according to their website.

Thank you for the info. I did finally get a job with Windy Hill in Eustis. May not be the best but like you said, "A job is a job." I will keep them in mind when I get done with my OTR. I just want to see the country first then do to local thing. Anyways, thank you again!!

Trying to get in touch with Armellini is a joke. I was told by someone they are hiring, so I was calling day in day out and I didn't hear one human voice. I don't even mind the team thing, as far as I think. Just something to make some darn money! I can't say I didn't try.

Florida is the worst place for sure. It will, most likely, get much, much worse once all the retirees in Florida get cut off from the automakers and others. Florida is, just like one other poster said, a consumer and retiree area. So you could think of Florida as America's blackhole...everything goes in, nothing comes out, lol.
Most companies won't hire out of Florida because it is hard to get them back out and the one's they already have on need to get home, etc. I am sorry to hear all this happen to you. But, seriously, I would move out of Florida if I wanted to get started and move back if you want. Now, if you lived in New Jersey, you would have these companies licking your boots right now. GL! -
My cousin just got a job with windy hill. He is currently on the road with his trainer and he says he likes it. They sound like a good family run company and my cousin says it is pretty relaxed. They do floral like armellini but I think a good part of their drivers are single drivers. Sounds like the run mostly midwest-eastcoast. Typical floral. Terminals in Fl and Wi

Did he happen to go out with the trainer Wed.? I had a chance to go that night at 9:00p.m. and missed it because I was not ready. I just called to check on the drug test, and the women in WI asked if I could leave that night. I did my driving test Tuesday. Wow the trucks drive so much better than the ones in school. LOL Thanks for the positive feed back, makes me feel better about it. Some one else on here doesn't like them AT ALL. Anyways, Take care.

I believe he left out wed night. His trainer is curtis. I just talked to him and they are shut down in Tenn. because of weather. I guess they don't have to deliver till mon. in Wisconsin and the company didn't want them to be on the roads.

Yeah that was when they asked me if I could go, but I guess your cousin was I bit more ready than I was. ######! LOL I'm next in line to go out if they can get a trainer down here. Christmas is messing it up wright now. Soon I hope. Please keep me updated on how he's doing out there.
