The over head hole is up there too, along with the power connector and stock coax. This is just the old style plate with the power studs but no coax. I'm guessing it was supposed to be for a company vhf radio?

Put another guy in my 16, got this 17 in a quick divorce sale. Got his dedicated shipper direct account too. 478mi round trip 1600 to the truck, 5 days a week. It's Chicagoland and that sucks but the money sure is good.

I picked up the Cobra 29 LX Max Smart CB at the Petro in Kingston Springs, TN, I-40 x 188, 12/26/17.

It was an easy setup in a 16 Cascadia Evo. The instruction book has plenty of guidance to setup the radio. The first thing I did was CAL and SWR on CH 1, 40, and 20. Going into the settings, there is a Radio Check feature that checks "Battery Voltage, RF Power Output, and Antenna" with a pass/fail result, and each test can be performed separately (test 1, 2, and 3). I went to CH 19 for a Radio Check and got an immediate "It's Workin" response loud and clear. So far, so good.

My main interest in the radio was the iRadar feature and the Report button on the mic. The picture on the box shows a truck alerting a following truck via a Smart Phone App by pressing the Report button. All I could think of doing was falsly report "Live Police" every so often to confuse anyone linked up with the iradar app. Smokey Bear every 5 miles ! And yes, you can press the report button and set alerts on the App. The Audio from the App has various Alert sounds depending on which type of "Threat" is present. Most of the time it is automatic Radar Alerts from Four Wheelers with detectors. Someone drove through a 10 Mile stretch of work zone that had mobile speed radar units setup every 0.2 miles. So my CB was going nuts with alerts. You can select Real or False by pressing the Report button on the Mic. That will remove the threats from the App and no one will be alerted. So, if a threat is no longer present, you can clear the threat using the CB. I was too busy dodging speeding cars and big trucks on I-40 westbound to pay any attention to the Alerts. They do show up on the CB. The app runs in the background so there is no need to look at it. It worked great.

The Bluetooth button controls everything. Double press the BT button and say "what is the current wind speed in Russelville Arkansas and Google will come through your speaker and tell you. You can say "play Genie In A Bottle by Christina Aguilera" and it says "Ok" you've got tunes. The BT controls works just like any other BT device.

The repeat button works great. I can replay up to 10 seconds of the last received transmissions. I can't re-transmit someone else's transmission however. The button also records a memo/voice note up to 10 seconds. I tried transmitting the memo, but did not get a reply back. I checked on my Cobra 38 portable CB and did not hear my memo transmitting. So, it's just a voice recording. Worthless feature IMO.

I called my Mother and talked to her through the CB Mic. The Mic is built into the Mic, so No you do not Push To Talk. Just talk. It comes with an external Mic that has an annoyingly long cable.

I have not had a chance to test the Text feature. I have received texts, but they never appeared on the CB LCD screen and I have no clue how to voice to text will work. I think the BT button will do it once you give the command to "send text". I have to figure that part out. Perhaps it's my Google account settings not being linked to my contacts.

It's certainly a distracting CB if you don't know how to use the features properly.

    Thanks for that interesting report!

All those features would be distracting to me for sure. I hope such devices don't end the hands-free-only CB radio exemption I've heard about in some states.
