    Two points.

    1. This is more proof of lack of suitable truck parking and massive increase in truck counts, not a result of increased eLog implementation. Overflowing truck stops beginning in late afternoons [in some regions] have been going on for decades.
    2. I've been on eLogs at refrigerated carriers for about 5 years and work all sorts of hours as part of the job and not once have I ever parked on the shoulder for 5 minutes or 8 hours.

Thirty years ago trucks were parked all down I-95 from Baltimore to Dumfries. This is nothing new. Just another idiot steering wheel holder spouting nonsense he heard somewhere. How many of those drivers did he ask 'why are you parked here'? You bet not a one. If he did ask and get an answer it would be more bs - because of elogs. I am an idiot also for reading and responding to these idiotic posts.

"Trucks ran out of time because of electronic logs."

Um, so you mean that if they didn't have electronic logs they could run legally and not park on the side of the road?
    Got it...

I hit the dock the other night with one minute left on the egg timer. Six miles from the consignee, two lane, Northern Michigan, road closed. I had three hours on the clock when the nice fireman shut me down... A truck that had just left my destination tangled with a Honda Civic. They both lost. I wish they would have planned their mishap until after I passed on by. I guess I should have planned better, eh?

And get this, after I delivered, 15 hours on the clock, I had to find a place to park and get some chow... I called dispatch and told them the situation and I was going to go find me some parking and grub. Dispatch said roll, find food and parking. Another hour later I was sitting at Walmart. I think I was at around 16+ hours at that point, but I was in a safe area with facilities and food. Temps were -10 or there about, windchill hitting -30. Safety first, egg timer or no egg timer.

That’s different. We don’t know the circumstances between the other driver and said Honda Civic. And as I said, there was advance warning about the storm, more than enough time to have a plan in place in case **** hits the fan. Especially in the Great Lakes region and ESPECIALLY DURING WINTER!

I know, but even driving into a storm is no guarantee that all can be planned for. This "trip planning" nonsense in regards to ELDs is just that, NONSENSE. To many variables out here to even remotely plan for. The best plan I have is sheet will happen and then we deal with it. That stupid egg timer should not weigh into the equation, I am already ignoring it and doing my job the way I always have, safely.
