Was just through there this past weekend. They have made about half of the parking into paid spots. I used to stop and fuel there but if they are going to do this I'm done stopping there. Too many other places to stop. I suppose it is just a matter of time now until every place has 75% of the spots paid parking.

I am afraid it's quite the opposite...

Point taken, but I'll still do my best to not give business to truck stops like that.

I don't see it getting to 75% most truckers think like you, we just won't stop. Effingham is just one of those areas that has super high freight volumes. If you go to the smaller routes, you will see that most trucks stops have much mower amounts of paid spots.

Effingham is a good spot back in the day for fueling etc. However...

We learned to bypass that I-70 on US Routes around the midwest. Accepting either the toll road or the US Routes which are offering a quieter experience than 70.

I don't recall going through Effingham in my last years, routing was flexible enough to simply not be in that region.

I am not surprised truckstops have gone to paid parking. I hate to be the one in the peanut gallery pontificating on the old days where a truckstop would charge you 10 dollars for parking if you did not buy fuel etc. back in the 80's

If EVERYONE would simply not pay for the spots, they will go the way of The Idle Air.

Petro/TA seem to have gone to more paid parking since the ELOG mandate went into effect. I noticed Sunday, the TA in Wildwood,FL had taken more spots into Reserve. It's an easy money grab 600-800 a day just for parking.

I have over heard a few company drivers say their company is reimbursing them for paid parking so they use it. Most of whom we're too FAT to waddle from the back row to the buffet.

A lot of the smaller an older truck stops along I 57 don’t seem to have paid parking. If you stay away from the mega truckstops you may find some parking. And some filthy bathrooms...
