Hey y'all, hello from Austinburg Ohio. Today was a good example of good plans gone awry. I got to this morning's final last night not knowing that they are closed on Sundays. Usually I'll get there the night before and check in early, and usually unload/load early. Not this time. I couldn't check in until 6:50am, 10 minutes before my appointment time. I was the informed that my load wasn't due until 11am. Umm...huh? I was then told that my reload was due to be put in my trailer at 9am. Apparently my delivery time had changed and weekend dispatch never told me. Go figure. So there went my nice little plan that I had for today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Awesome. By the time I got loaded and moving, I didn't have a ton of time to run before parking would be difficult. So I headed west and decided to stop here. I was intending to get about 500 miles in today, and ended up with 220. I was also intending to sleep at the final tomorrow night and I'll fall short of that by about 240 miles. Oh, the plans of mice and men. Screw it, that's truckin'. For now, anyhow. Tomorrow I'll make into Tennessee and hopefully see some mild weather. It was 36 for a bit in New York today and it felt like a friggin heat wave. You couldn't have pulled the smile off my face with a crowbar. If I see 40's I'm putting on shorts! Regardless of my plans going down the toilet, today was a good day. I got a bunch of stuff done like paying bills and whatnot, and straightened up my truck a little. And I just heard from @wprice0511 's roommate and he's getting his own truck tomorrow. So excited for him. Great dude. He has definitely earned it. I'm sure I'll get phone calls every day from him and I'm looking forward to it. Nothing kills time and miles like a good conversation. He's excited and extremely nervous, and I remember that feeling like it was yesterday. I actually saved the cover sheet and BOL from my first load and framed them. Looking back, that was one of the easiest loads I've ever run. But back then, it was an unbelievably scary experience and I'll never forget it. Nor do I want to. Even when I've been an O/O for years, the memory of that trip will never fail to humble me. And the memory of how much Opie patiently helped me that day. Finishing that load was the exact moment I knew that I couldn't possibly have chosen a better company. Sorry for my trip down Nostalgia Lane. I don't really have anything else to report today, so I guess I'll sign off. Hope all of you are doing well. As always, be safe out there. Keep the rubber side down and check your pins. Peace y'all.
