Emergency rations- do you use them?

Typically the only things I buy at truck stops are with fuel points. Else unless I absolutely need it,.. (Oil or coolant as an example) I wont spend a dime inside the store.

In fact unless I have to use the restroom,.. I almost never go inside. I pay at the pump with fuel card and they email my receipt to me.

Prices in those places are ridiculous. $5 for 2 slices of pizza? And thats if you have their points card. $5 for 2 little cups of fruit thats typically half rotten. You pretty much pay double and triple for everything in there. Its insulting to me.

yeah iv been fighting off a flu this last week and one got me for 12.99 for a bottle of dayquil but i didn't want to make another stop somewhere else i just wanted my fuel and that and get on with it and get the day over with.

you could easly spend 50+ bucks a day buying everything as you go from truck stops. a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich in the morning for 7 bucks plus some snacks for the day and a bottle of pop there goes a total of 15 for the morning. buy some super nutritious fried diarrhea for lunch for another 8 bucks. then at the end of the day go to a mediocre at best truck stop restaurant spend 15 bucks + tip so 18 bucks on supper. there goes 41 dollars just in things you stuff in your mouth and squirt out later in just one day. i could eat steak for every meal and not spend that much.

 

Always carry water, change of clothes (daycab) and canned food I dont care for (so it will be there if needed).

 

I always have food and water for a few days just to be safe. But the best advice I ever got from a old timer was to keep candles and a lighter in the truck. Especially in the winter, said if need be it would keep the cab warm enough to keep you from freezing to death. I’ve never had to try it thank goodness but sounds like a good plan to me.

 

These if you can boil water and they won’t freeze. I have small element will boil water in 2 minutes. Sardines and crackers are excellent.

 

Take it for what its worth. But guy failed his drug test. Hit for meth, this kid does not do drugs. But does play Solder a few days per month. And a few weeks in the summer.
They had been eating new MRE's for the 2 days before. That Monday he had a Drug test when he walked into work. National Guard give him a pass. He found out others had failed for Meth after eating these things.. This was last summer, and did not think much about it.
This winter was told there's a company. That makes 7200 gallons of Meth. Ships out in a Tanker at night. You got it our Military is using it in MRE's.
So if you find after eating the new MRE's that you hit for Meth. May be true, I sure hope there not adding that into our Solders meals. But would not put it past them to do anything. That will make them go an extra step.

 

Also Learned my lesson in 1986. Coverall's Water and food in the truck at all times.. May be 90 degrees when I left home. But may be somewhere its 10 degrees the next day.
Be prepared and ready. Truck broke down in Upper NY state in 1996. I had a flat coke and half bottle of water in the cab. After that there was 3 days worth of food. 5 one gallon bottles of water in the side Compartment.

 

I carry a few light and simple rations like oatmeal and blueberries-- just add water, no heat required. I'm not in big trucks much anymore, I'm stuck in an office. But I do keep a pack with good boots, extra jacket, socks, high-viz vest, a few bottles of water, first aid kit and survival kit in the pickup. and a little snubby .38 in my console lock box in case I'm not carrying. My wife thinks I'm paranoid.
