Company driver per diem

You should be working with your accountant, instead of, giving the government an interest free loan.

I don't worry about that stuff anymore these days being on a fixed income. But I can tell you there were many years a accountant would have been useful.

Too many times there is a issue with payroll back then usually because the papers on the loads have not arrived yet. If they did they have not been paid so I don't get paid. And so on. Im happy to be rid of that. That is probably why I advocate the salary system pretty hard.

 

Bottom line is, if you're not deducting MIE on line 24 or getting per diem you're leaving money on the table. They're two ways to do the same #### thing. Per diem or MIE don't miss out on extra money in your bank.

 

It helped his driver get financial aid because it lowered his reported income. When you earn less, you're eligible for more types of financial aid. When I was in school, my junior year my parents made too much to qualify for subsidized (interest does not accrue while you're in school) loans, so unsubsidized (interest increases the amount owed from the time you receive the loan) was my only option. Had they made less, I would've been eligible for other types of grants and such, but as a lower-middle class white boy from the suburbs with average grades and decent test scores, there wasn't much out there for me.

Much like with alimony, child support, and judgements against you, the lower your "wages" appear on paper, the better off you are when seeking financial aid for college.

 

Child support kills me. $500 dollars a month. But I guess it could be worse.

That's where per diem would work to your benefit...drop your "wages" by a few bucks and after a year go back to challenge the amount based upon your lower wages...maybe knock $50 or $100 per month off.

'Course if the ex is a real B or she's blowing the money on herself while the kid gets clothes from good will, there'd be more incentive to do that than if things are friendly between y'all and she's actually using the money for the kid like she's supposed to. You could take that extra $$$ and spoil the kid with it when you see him/her.
