Redcoat was telling me about the $5 ice cream cones and $4.50 slices of pizza at the place where they are. Hopefully he'll get out of there soon before he goes broke just trying to eat....
welcome to the world of trucking.if you will look around, you will notice that alot of truskstops are in places with nothing around, or fast food places. the only way to save $$ out here is to stock the truck with canned food,or nukey food, but that only
lasts so long till you get sick of it...:smt119
you can get an inverter and a microwave and a small electric pan and cook on board,
that will cost $75 to the covenant kitty.....
we tried doing this but we have electrical issues with this truck, after a few hours she goes dead! and we told them of this but that is why we have 2 ears....one is for
info going in,the other to just spew it out!
but there are solutions to everything..we fuel at pilot, after you collect enough "points" you can get $5 footlong sandwiches, they have a decnt variety and hey, it is free just by fueling! so some $$ saved there.
also, shop at walmart and get healthy snacks, water, soda, and other goodies and stock the truck like your expecting an invasion!
you have to be carefull out here, money will go like sand thru your fingers........
also this is important in bad weather, you get stuck in a "dead" area, you will start hunting squirrels!......
best wishes to everyone..

Have a refrigerator (with freeze) and stock on vegetables, fruits, rice, canned beans, and everything vegetarian (toffu), granola, nuts, etc, etc every time I can stop at Walmart or Whole Foods. Then, I cook in the trk (rice cooker, got at walmart for 20 bucks). Now I can eat (almost like I used to before trucking). That Subway smell at Pilot make me sick.
And being a vegetarian, I would starve to death if I were not cooking in the trk. It's very good to be able to have some good, healthy, warm meal everyday and not spend an arm and a leg.

Hey guys. Thanks for the food tips. Redcoat said they were stuck at a service plaza somewhere in Mass. It was the only place around that had any food. There was a Pilot a reasonable distance from where they dropped their load but it didn't have a restaurant. So they've been at the service plaza since Friday. The did find a WalMart nearby but it had all those little bitty islands all over the place in the parking lot and so they couldn't navigate their way through the parking lot with the trailer behind them. So back to the plaza they went. Redcoat said there's four other Covenant trucks there and a Star truck just pulled in while he was on the phone.
Redcoat says they can't keep driving all over the place and that they have to stay relatively near where they dropped their load.
They finally got a dispatch over the QC while I was talking to him around 9 this morning but they don't pick up the load until 6 in the morning Tuesday. Something headed to Minnesota (brrrrrrr).
Not sure what the timing aspect is of it but Redcoat mentioned that they way the company did it, it keeps them from having to pay layover pay or they only have to pay for one day or something like that. You other Covenant drivers may be able to elaborate more intelligently on this than I can.
Stay tuned.IrunU and The Challenger Thank this. -
I love this thread.... LOL.. I am staying tuned. My covenant driver finally made it out of North Carolina after sitting for 3 days. On his way to Wisconsin...

I turned arround in a shopping center parking lot a couple of times with those little islands all over the place with trees etc in them.
It was more of a headace than what it is worth but I watched my mirrors closely and managed not to hit anything.. -
park their cars. If they're scattered all over the parkin' lot ---
a few here, a few there, or if the lot is full of shopper's cars, like
around Christmas time, it makes it difficult.
And even when and/or if y'all find a place to park, be SURE to
leave yourself an OUT. Those shoppers have been known to block
a Big truck in by parking in front of and in back of a Big truck.
Sometimes, even the employees do that because they're instructed
not to park up close to the store, and when they see a Big truck
taking up several parking places in the south forty that they think
they're entitled to, they've been known to purposely block those
Big trucks in.

Tell him to stay safe!! -
Definitely tell him to stay safe, as there is some nasty weather headed for the midwest starting today all through tuesday, or later.

My hubby was in Minnesota and Wisconsin last week. He thinks it's funny to find property where ever he is and call me to look it up! Told him NOT funny when it is covered in 5 feet of snow for 6 months out of the year! haha
Today he is headed from CA to FL. Haven't seen him in 6 weeks, but at least he's rolling and not idling.
He is mad that they are staying out for 8 weeks so that they get Christmas at home only to find out they only get 4 days off for the holiday! Gotta love those family values!
