My comment was in response to Minia's question:
"How to find out what engine year in the glider, if there is no labels."

To answer your question; technically, nothing I suppose BUT it's illegal to remove serial numbers so they'd be taking a great risk if they run across a LEO that knows his parts.

    MACK E-6 Thanks this.

So are you running e logs in a 2000 truck with a 99 engine?

I was when the Keller Mobile was on AOBRD rules. they switched to ELD Rules for our fleet on December 14, 2017 and the system has been almost unusable since then.
I decided to exercise my exemption and am now on paper logs.

ELD seems to be having trouble, the ELD I'm stuck with has a notice of not complying but no warning light, it hasn't linked with its host site for 7 days.

Supposed to fix itself, we'll see.

There is a truck that I’m looking to get. The truck is built in 2000 but it has an engine model year 1997. It will be exempt from E log?

Probably yes. Tag on engine meay show build date. But if the motor has been factory rebuilt since the end of 1999 probably not. It should have a tag showing the rebulid date.

It is not the date of the rebuild. It is the EPA model year specification it was built to. The truck you see on the left has a factory remanufactured engine installed by Detroit Diesel identical to the OEM engine, which was an EPA 1999 model year engine. It was installed in 2008 and the truck is exempt from mandatory ELD requirements.
Just like a 2018 glider with an engine remanned in 2017, if built to the 1999(or earlier) EPA model year specification is also exempt.

    Vio Thanks this.

    What do I do now?

    I have a 2001 truck with a Reman 1998 c-12 motor,

I tried this ELD thing With Prepass,I plugged the device into my truck that I had to Buy PLUS buy a 6 pin to 9 pin adapter-

Would Not keep steady records- Sometimes does not allow me to Sign in. Engine ICON on phone App-Stays Black which means no signal from engine.

I get Periodic signal to phone App- Not sure If its the "App" that's bad- Or my truck not communicating-

IM DONE WITH THIS ####- Im Tired of making these rules,Yet costing me Time and Money!!

So What, Am I Exempt?? Please someone Give me some answers- Especially you E-log lovers

And,I am NOT electronic Savvy at all, Customer Service scratching there heads why my truck wont communicate steady....

My Pin is 6-pin round on truck- I Don't have Steady Power to the Plug in device
