You’re in a good position in Springfield. Springfield is a HUB so there’s usually a decent amount of freight comin across the dock. You’re close to St. Louis and KC which are 2 break bulks, so if they don’t have anything it’s a short bounce to get you thrown into the system. Not that it really matters because empty mile are paid too, I’m just sayin they get you to KC or St. Louis and your length of runs are gonna go up exponentially. St. Louis you’re gonna see a lot of West Middlesex PA or Dallas. KC you’re gonna get a lot of Denver and we would go to Minneapolis a lot when I teamed with them out of there. Only thing that’s kind of a bummer about Springfield is it’s a gravel lot. And when it rains it’s sloppy and pot-holey which makes hookin a set about the most frustrating thing you’ll do at 2 am. Estes used to have a policy of not sending extraboard drivers out more than 2 dispatches away. But being centrally locates like Springfield you can go pretty dang far in either direction. And that might not even be a policy anymore. Plus since I left I hear they doing away with a lot of bunkhouses so it’ll be mostly hotel stays for ya. Some better than others. The hotel they use in Flint, MI comes to mind. :puke:

I don't even know what bunk houses are. It's an hotels. You'll gross 2K a week easily going from KCK to Denver repeatedly.

Havne't been to Flint but I know the Kansas City hotel is crap hole. the only hotel I've stayed in that I have complained about. Saw bed bugs last time i was there. I'm pretty sure all extraboard stays in hotels now. only bid drivers stay in the bunkhouses.

There are plenty of miles to be had at Estes. I don't ever get less than 2750 a week running the road, and that's just for Mon-Fri. Only problem with a small terminal like that is if you ever plan on getting off the road, they usually don't have many scheduled runs, and no day time line haul for sure. The bigger terminals have a lot of day time runs. When i started, my paycheck was usually about $1100/week.

Nice. My best check on the extra board was around $1200 when I was still making .57/mi. I'm went back extra board this year for the money starting next month now at .6075/mi. I'm looking forward to these big pay checks again.
