Spoke with US Xpress about their Advance Driving Program, and I was told that as of November 11th, a hiring freeze was put on all Advanced and Student positions. They hope to have this re opened middle of December or the first of the year. Looks like slow time of the year.

When I called US Xpress recently, I was told by the recruiter that currently they are not looking to take any students until at least after January.

I recently tried to get retrained by my old trainer (who just went back to USX and is looking to train again) and when I brought the issue up, the recruiter told me that they were not going to certify anymore trainers until after January. So, I guess my old trainer will have to wait.

I drove for US Xpress. I was OTR and on their Dedicated Dollar General Account out of Jonesville, SC. I trained on the Dollar General account, we went to Dollar Generals in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia and unloaded our trailers at the store. I am not sure, but they usually are always looking for people for this account. They share the terminal there with Swift. They have a Home Depot dedicated in North Carolina (and TN I think), but you need to establish a good delivery and pick-up record to even be considered. Walmart or Sams Club dedicated is also in North Carolina I believe. USX does a lot of Sam's Club.

Your information shows you have been driving 0 - 1 year. How long did you have to drive for US Xpress before they considered you for that dedicated account?

Ok, I'll bite. Why would you need trained twice? I am assuming it is because you took a lot of time off? I am lost, LOL.

I was put on Dollar General when I first started. I was trained on their account. When I went to US Xpress in July 2005 they were offering this account to anybody who lived in one of the states that the Jonesville DG terminal primarily delivered to. They were offering it to newbs and experienced drivers. I am sure this was because they had trainers on the account which was my case.

I think all you would have to do is ask them to put you on the account. Sometimes though, I think they have enough drivers for the account, but they will take you when you first join.

Yes, I have not driven a truck since May 2006. The companies I have called said that I would probably need to be retrained if I came back. Some would prefer me to get a refresher. I am currently in the process of doing this; in fact I am writing a story later in my blog about what I have been doing.
