Between those 2 Id say Schneider... I worked for Marten and would advise you to steer clear of them. On the other hand, I would reccomend trying out Swift Transport. You already completed driving school and wouldnt have to complete the driver training portion which will save you alot of headache. So in order I would go Swift > Schneider > Marten in that order... My CDL Class A career began at Schneider's tanker division in 1994. I went through their school. It was a good company to start out with (tanker, van, whatever). Between Schneider and Werner, even though I don't know much about Werner, I would recommend Schneider.
I've been with Marten for about seven years now and prefer them to Schneider, but since Marten kind of leaves drivers to "fend for themselves" in certain ways that can take some getting used to, Schneider is probably a better place for new drivers than Marten.
I asked around quite a bit in 1994 like you're doing now...Schneider won out for me, and I never regretted the choice.

Werner has paperless logbook and I believe the recruiter said they are buying automated shift trucks now. They have forced dispatch also. 3 reasons not to sign with them.
-
When I was leased on to Schneider, we were forced dispatch too. But, if I had to make a choice between the two, I'd go with Schneider because of their continued training.

Read some of the posts here and you will find Schneider is the one of choice.

I have been with Schneider for 5 years and I have had my share of problems with them but I wouldnt even even think twice about going to Werner. SNI dose have have forced dispatching for the company drivers and is strict on safety issues but SNI has been bumping up the pay scale for the last 2 years for the system drivers, has a really good benifit package availible, and you will be treated with respect as long as you keep your cool. If you think you can go to the office and raise hell.... you better think twice cause it will work against you.

Thanks All,
I have decided to go with Schneider because of their emphasis on training and safety. Being a newbie, I am realistic enough to know that I don't know enough about driving. I am willing to sacrifice a few cents in the beginning to be trained properly so I can make it in the long haul. I have to catch the 23 hour ride on the grey dog tomorrow in order to begin the classes this Saturday. I am excited and apprehensive at the same time.
Hopefully I will see you all on the road. Thanks again and take it easy.

SCHNEIDER!!
I've not driven for them nor have I driven for Werner, however from all accounts read I would prefer Schneider as they have more options for hauling.

I'm a recent graduate also and I went with Werner.
I know there are at least two things you should considor when comparing these two companies. First, i've heard that Schnieder uses a lot of automatic transmissions and so if you drive for them you might not get the experience you need to move forward in your carreer after you have a year or two of exxperience. Second, the training program at Werner is 275 hours. It takes FOREVER! But apparantly one advantage of that is that it looks good on your resume. Thats what my trainer told me anyway.
