Will county is an outlying suburb of Chicago ...welcome to progress .
And last I knew it takes trucks to transport ag products to market .
But typical of nimby northern Illinois.Oldironfan and gokiddogo Thank this. -
If Centerpoint had fully complied with their building agrerments do you think the residents would have a different opinion? Specfically about building access roads?
-
Nope. That part of Will County(never mind the entire county as a whole) has always been hostile to anything transportation related(or anything industrial related)from the Peotone Airport proposal to Centerpoint. If someone so much as thought about building an outhouse there they would have council meetings on the issue, with the residents raising holy hell in the process!Last edited: Jan 15, 2018

Peotone was a political boondogle that would have made several individuals rich without significantly increasing the number of flights or cost of airtravel. Chicago has 2 international airports (Milwaukee and Ohare), Midway, the Executive air port for small craft and the Gary freight airport. Not to mention Rockford.
Daley never made the case that a third airport was necessary. Nice, yes, but not necessary and not at that price tag. -
It was the State that wanted to make the case for the proposed Peotone airport(or more appropriately, the TAX REVENUE that would’ve been generated had it been built).None of the airlines were interested because it was too far out from Chicago and lack of infrastructure. Nobody currently flies to Gary Chicago International Airport due to lack of interest (Gary’s stigma with a high crime and economic blight hasn’t helped things, in spite of the improvements made to the airport, including extending the main runway). Plus tax revenues from that airport would’ve gone to the cities of Gary & Chicago (and the State of Indiana respectively), leaving the State of Illinois SOL.And actually both O’Hare and Midway handle international traffic while Milwaukee is a little too far up north(90 miles from downtown Chicago) except for those who live near the Wisconsin state line, while Rockford (86 miles distant from Chicago) is too far out with no convienient commuter links to Chicago, save for maybe a Greyhound bus route (UPS uses it as a mini hub for their cargo flights though).Executive (old Palwaukee),DuPage and Aurora Municipal Airports can handle all the private traffic.Last edited: Jan 15, 2018

As I said, boondoggle. No one needed it, no one wanted it.

It should be noted that ironically Midway was looking at closure initially as expanding that airport was out of the question but with Midway Airlines,ATA and now Southwest Airlines using that airport as a hub its long term future is assured.
