I have a Cobra 29 LTD Chrome I bought a year ago.had It peaked and tuned by the cb shop in the petro to the north of ATL It worked fine, After I got it peaked and tuned. I was getting around 5 miles with it. It then sat for two months. Then when I started this job it sat in my car for a couple days and now my range has gone from about 5 miles to 1 if i am lucky. Any thoughts?

Range has a lot more to do with the antenna/coax system than the radio. Even small, cheap radios will get out well with a good antenna.

With the problem you are having it’s really hard to answer “why” over a cb forum. It sounds like you’ve ruled out the antenna, so It must be something in the radio. Everyone one who owns a CB radio should have an external power / SWR meter. That really helps with checking your system out. you may need to take the radio to a tech and have him put it on a bench to see what’s wrong.

You’re welcome .....sorry I don’t have an exact answer for you. Its possible the transmit final is failing, especially since you mentioned it’s had a Peak&tune years ago. If the radio has had the RF power cranked up too much, it puts a lot of stress on the final. It’s really hard to say without the proper test equipment to diagnose it.

I just re-read your post, and I realized the peak&tune was only done a year ago. But it still may apply to your problem.

I was pretty sure that was what the answer would be but hey it's all good. My brother
thinks I might have popped resisters loose leaving it on my car. I just have to find a cb shop so I can have it looked at.

Yes I have too every shipper/receiver I go to requires them. I have noticed a lot more people on cbs as of late and most are not talking trash which is always a pluss
