I thought so. Independent dealers are in somewhat less of a position to readily turn down a potential sale and are usually easier to deal with.

I think the 870 would be the cheaper of the two, but what are your plans for them? Different tools have different uses, you know.

Oh it would definitely be cheaper. I was curious about the dealers. I have many guns. I love skeet shooting, sporting clays and just plinking targets. I used to shoot a lot when I lived in Easton. All kinds of places to go shooting down there. Not so much where I live now. When I get my Hazmat back and get a little more local I want to join the Izaak Walton league and maybe become a range instructor so I can have full access. Not enough time now...

And this comment in regard to your question.

I don't run this website but I do think the search function here is a great one. Also because Google search bots crawl the database even doing a google search will produce results like this.

Oh those are not a problem.

The VA FFL is the one with the problem, not you.

This is the Maryland list of banned weapons, your 870 express does not show.

An example of a banned weapon in MD is the .50 Barrett. There is or was one for sale in Little Rock for around 30K a few years ago. Rounds for it is around 10 dollars each more or less. We are a free state here, no banned weapons that I know of.

The one thing Maryland does not do is honor anyone outside of the state in reciprocity and vice versa. I realized that might be a problem.

It's unfortunate. But it's not the only state with issues. I use 230 grain Federal surplus LEO Hollowpoints generally and some buffalo bores hardcast in super etc and NJ does not allow HP ammo I don't think.

What really gets me is that online orders when they ship, come down across Highlands Illinois, which resolves to Chicago via UPS. HA.... the irony. The other part is easier coming out of Texas. So sourcing ammunition is not a problem.

For anyone not familiar with FFL, the process of purchasing a weapon in many areas involves filling out a question form. If all the answers are just so, they call in and get Proceed, Delay (Wait) or Deny do not proceed. And then the sale can be completed.

Regarding shotguns, my choice would be the 870 Marine Magnum. You can take this into salt water and it will not have a problem generally and it will take the 3.5 inch magnum slugs I use. (These generate a 5 foot flame blast though and take on anything up to 250 yards.)

I have had trouble in shotgunning years ago physically, when I fire the body exhibits recoil damage in areas of the eyes for example. The last one was looking at burning the retinas back into place with a laser. Fortunately they didnt have to do that. So I transitioned to handgun which is a way better weapon for where I am now.

Well, at least under MD’s 2013 law we can still go down there and bring back all the 30 round mags we want. :D

I was at the range in Mardela Springs (the one next to the Scalehouse on 50) years ago and a guy had an arsenal with him. I was watching him shoot a AR50. He let me take a few shots with it. Cool rifle! Back then it cost about$5 a bullet. I'm sure it's gone up though.

We kind of hijacked this one because it has been discussed at length in many posts before this. Each state and company is different. Nobody can give anyone a definitive answer because there are way to many variables.
