All about perspective... how many old hands do you hear saying that trucking has never been this bad, its the end of times, yadda yadda.... adapt and perspective.

Haven't you noticed speed limits going up all over the country? Those morons already think faster is safer.HopeOverMope and Steel Dragon Thank this.

Since when is it in control of the foot pedal?
Are you not still in control of your truck?
These things don't make you do anything you weren't already doing.Just passing by, driverdriver, Tb0n3 and 5 others Thank this. -
Running 62 for 20 hours is much safer...
TruckRunner, Tb0n3 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
As far as the early morning appointments I have solved it like this..
You gotta know basicly at the time you leave the shipper when you can get to the receiver. The 5 mph trigger to driving is the issue. You can move forever below 5 mph but it isn't practical given the size of many customers. You can put it on line 3, or line 4(yard move...where it belongs) or you can claim pc and put it on line 1 and hope you don't get caught.
All that aside.... most receivers have receiving times that begin from say midnight to 4am and end at maybe 10 am to 2 pm. So rather than 4 am tell them you want 8 am. No issue if you tell them well ahead of time. Don't try to do it at 10 pm before your 4 am appt the following morning. Oh, and you also have to tell them you were held up at shipper. You must shift the issue back on them because you are now dealing with rigid rules with zero flexibility. If the customer says whoever else can get it done because they are exempt tell them to call that person. The reality is the bulk of the trucks on the road do not meet the exemption so they can cough up whatever premium the eld exempt guy can squeeze them for. Believe it or not, most customers will listen to you if you tell them the issue you are facing. We're all in it together.BoostedTeg Thanks this. -
And yes I drive faster than previous. Most notably on my west to east loads. Used to cruise in 62 to 67 range now I am most often in the 70 to 75 range. Maximize every day cut it as close as you dare. Legal is the name of the game now.
Indignant trucker, x1Heavy, BoostedTeg and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have been able to make an eld work and still accomplish the same amount of work as I did before.
The problem is now I must run the max speed limit where ever I go and burn more fuel than I did before the mandate.
So is this safer running the max speed limit all the time on the interstate and in town?
I think not.
Is burning many more gallons of diesel a year than I did before good for the environment and my bottom line?
I think not.
See the proble here?Last edited: Jan 18, 2018
