When I first got my authority, I went power only due to the fact that I did not have a Trailer. Plus the fact is that the good brokers do not work with people whose authority is less then a year old. Two years for some of the really good loads.

I started with Pam. The money there was not very good but it let me get a few paychecks under my belt. My Carrier insurance was through OOIDA. Around 600 a month. Then they cancelled on me. It seems that I forgot to mention accidents that were the fault of other drivers. Times I got hit. So they disqualified me for life. Booo. Pam's loads were mostly light and if the pay was better, I would have stayed. But, it isn't. I then moved on to USA Truck. The pay was better. Here the problem became the lack of trailers. I spent too much time having to run around finding an empty. Competing with Company Drivers for ones. The rate was around $800 a day which works but doesn't really get me excited. What was great was that when they did not have a load for me over the weekend, my gal would let me find my own freight and use their trailer free of charge. I got in touch with Coyote and pulled their freight on the weekends like that. Parker was my broker at Coyote. He recently was fired for inhaling a white powery substance in the restroom during a company party. I hate that as he was a very good broker.

I have just put on two more trucks and I believe that Landstar has a power only group that seems to be the way to go. So that is what I would recommend you do. I do not think they will put you on until you have more experience but you can try.

Im in my first year and 95 % of brokers would work with me no problem . Only a couple brokers turned me away , some will turn you away if you dont have enough safety inspections . Not as bad as some think , insurance is the first year killer .

Just did it! Go big or Go home!
Become a Carrier for CH Robinson
Insurance minimum is 100k Cargo Coverage, 1Mil Auto Coverage with TI Insurance Endorsement (Trailer Interchange) CH Robinson must be listed as a Certificate Holder (Very Important)
W9 Form filled out and you have access to best Load Board out there, CH Robinson is the biggest Freight Broker in the USA and the number 1.
Don't let people fool you, there is a ton of money to be made as Power Only in fact is becoming a Hot Topic in most Trucker Talks, read the news about how ELD is affecting Freight and why BIG companies are ordering more and more Trailers, specially Dry Vans with Reefer orders following, YES get your endorsements, Hazmat, Tanks and it wouldn't hurt to get your TWIC.
I have them all and boy, boy, boy

If you're serious, i wouldn't even worry about any of that BS. Instead, work on finding someone who can sell their ### off. The B.s'er salesman type: (i.e., Reverend Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson etc.) The kind of B.S'er/motormouth who can steal your underwear-----AND SELL IT BACK TO YOU.

THAT, my friend, is what you need. It's easy to buy a truck, insurance etc. Not so easy to sell..........
