I've never driven split axle, but would it work to get a normal weigh while hanging the split off the back of the scale (not weighing it,) and then going around for a $2 reweigh of the entire truck?

If you are presented with a whole platform and no pads... (*Non cat I think...)

Put the whole truck onto it. Get the gross.

Pull until steers are off. Get that weight.

Pull until drives are off. Get that weight.

And done. Subtract steers, subtract drives and then what is left is your trailer. Now IF THAT IS A SPREAD, pull the foward trailer axle off, pause get that weight and that should do it.

Yep. I always call that the poor man's Cat scale...
The only thing I see that might be a problem with using the app to get individual axle weights is....the Cat scale attendant is suppose to look at the camera to make sure your on the scale correctly. If your half off the scale and they don't know what your doing, they might not approve it. With the app, you don't even have to roll your window down to talk to anyone inside. Just pull up on the scale and use the app.

To do split axle spread (4 weights) you'll have to coordinate with the person at the scale system inside via the speaker. The app will not show 4 weights (I don't think) but it's likely you can pay via the app, but you will still have to coordinate with the person inside before proceeding, weigh-move-weigh, then let her process your "app card" for payment, then go inside and get a modified weight ticket.

The catscale app worls great for what it is. Billing and communication. But there is still some input required from the attendant inside. So getting spread axle split weigh would still require arguing with an attendent.

Normally you announce on the mic to the lady you are doing a split axel. Then you

    1)scale the whole gross first.
    2) pull up and weigh again only having the 2 trailer axels on the first 2 pads.
    3) go get scale ticket

The ticket will show all axels and gross.

    Per CAT Scale Help desk, (877 228 7225 x6)
You can not get a spread axle weight or double trailer weight using the app.
    Spread axle works like this........
Let weigh master (truck stop cashier) know you are a spread axle.
The weigh master will get your truck # then will weigh just your steers and drives.
They will ask you to pull up to 2nd position,
Pull up and Put your first trailer axle on drive pad (where your drives were in first position) that will place your second trailer axles on scale 3.
Weigh master will record those two scales. (drive and trailer pad) Your scale ticket will have 4 weights, steers, drives, trailer (1st trailer axles weight) the second weight next to the steers is you rear trailer axle weight.
If the cashier is in question of how to do this call the CAT Scale Help desk right then, better to get CAT Scale involved than get a bad weight.
