Mike2633,
I was looking over your drawings and I got to thinking what might work for your "fictional" operation would be a Magna Van. You could order them in various lengths. As far as I know not many were built, I've personally only seen one which was owned by Gordon trucking back in the 1980's. I think they primarily used it for service to the coast where the highways had strict tractor trailer length rules. If your not familiar with the Magna Van concept watch the youtube video below.

Yes I'm in the Cleveland metro area, I'm not really ever south of the Ohio Turnpike.HalpinUout Thanks this.

That Magna Van Concept I think is really a cool idea, it's kind of sad it didn't catch on because, that thing would be good for like food service deliveries to chain restaurants that have adequate space, to use it plus it sits low to the ground you would have very little ramp running to do as far as running up the ramp you could go from a 10foot ramp to a 5 foot ramp. The system would need a side door to make freezer compartment unloading possible, but at every other stop you could just bunch the truck and trailer together at the 2" setting if you even had to.

@Mike_77
I guess the big draw back with the Magna Van was that it couldn't be used for drop and hooks real well and shippers couldn't load it when it wasn't hooked up to the straight truck unit. I guess, they didn't like the draw bar on it I know it looks kind of rickety.
However I guess the house hold moving van crowd liked them and I don't know I think it has it's place in customized food service distribution I know for normal truck load freight it was kind of an awkward thing and I know that rear trailer and draw bar look a little awkward, but it's still pretty cool.Mike_77 Thanks this. -
Mike2633,
Here's another book idea for you. It's being sold on Amazon for $77.00! I'm sure your familiar with Navajo Freight Lines. They were in my opinion the quintessential ICC era western common carrier. Of course their livery was rich with droms and truck & trailers. My wife's great aunts dad drove for them out of Albuquerque New Mexico.Last edited: Jan 21, 2018
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
yeah, somehow Navajo, Digby Lines and Voyager are all interrelated.
-
It's my understanding that Don Digby purchased the Navajo trademark from ABF after ABF purchased and closed Navajo Freight Lines. The Navajo Express truckload carrier we know today has a connection to the old Navajo Freightlines in name only.

Working a night shift tonight for a driver who has the flu today was kind of a waste of a day.
