The dream here is that we want to be paid for all of our down time plus keep the same pay for our time. The reality is that we are paid fairly well for the time we drive, which supoosedly covers our down time. The would probably pay us for our down time, but then we would only get like$.25/mile

My company is pretty good with detention, but layover is on us. Although if I stay out of the bad states, I haven't sat much. Only 3 days last month

The problem with Florida is that there is always more going in than coming out. It's not your dispatcher's fault. That's just the nature of their economy.

It may not be the dispatchers fault but it is the load planners fault. If they are going to send you to Florida without a planned back haul then they should just DH you out of there.

I have only ran to Florida 3 times in my career and never sat at all . Ran scrap metal out of little Havana on one occasion and cypress mulch on another.

If a company wants to pay me by the mile then they need to keep me rolling when I have hours to roll. Loaded or mty it does not matter to me.

Want to sit me 2 or 3 days then put me on the clock, otherwise keep me rolling or lay me off, period.

Been awake for about 16 hours now.

So, in your mind, you need to be Union to be paid for a layover? I know of one driver on here that will disagree with that.

Promises from recruiters? Promises from companies? Do you have that in writing or are you so gullible that you believe every word they say? Nothing is in writing? Your fault.

Are you saying that unless you are a Union driver, You can forget about promises that were made to you? Do you think those bucks are really free?

At least they made an attempt to do the right thing. More than I can say for the hundreds of companies on here.

You should have stayed there. That makes the most sence to me. Just think, a place where you are paid for what you do. Driving, waiting, delays etc. Who could argue with that?

Without knowing your total situation, you should have stayed at those companies that you felt best worked for you.

No answer about Florida. I work local in Los Angeles.

I cannot speak for OTR companies as I have never worked for them. In fact, I have only been laid over once with my company. They paid for my dinner, breakfast and lunch along with the cost of the hotel with a receipt. No cap, just actual amount paid out of my pocket for expenses inccured.

Now it is your turn to tell me the companies you worked for who provided that type of respect and caring?

You've got that right! I am fortunate to have found a good company that gets me home each night, with weekends off, to spend with my family.

Good point. My minimum guarantee is $193.12 for 8 hours. Not the best but by far, a lot better than most on here. Overtime is not figured into the previous guarantee. No offense to anyone.

    That's more than obvious!!!

    Drive safe

You are payed by the mile because then the companies can hire twice the drivers they really need. Think about it, they flood the countryside with drivers who are basically on standby getting a piece rate if they should be thrown a bone and given a load.

The original intent for mileage pay and exemption from labor laws was because companies did not know what you where doing once you left the yard. With GPS tracking and qualcomms, most companies know where you are and if your working or not.

I am not saying that the companies should have to pay you for every hour you are away from the house but they should pay you for the time you have hours to drive and are available for DP yet sitting their playing pool on your cell phone.:yes2557:

When I first started driving you had freedom on the road. Now at many companies you are a virtual prisoner in your truck and every move is micromanaged and watched by some computer. The only thing free about driving OTR these days is the free ride the carriers get by having you be ready to roll and not rolling you.

A average of 40-50 grand sound like a good check, but look at the hours you put in and sacrifices you make to get that check .

Thing about it is the companies you work for make real good money taking a hot load into Florida. They really do not give a care how long it takes for you to get dispatched out. People speak of preplanning but, that is from a real dispatcher not a load finder we have today. I am supposed to run southeast and hate it each time I see a Florida load on the Qualcomm.
