Got a new fitting on, not leaking now. I am warming up the motor and bleeding it out then I'm going to test drive it for a bit. Question I have, is this normal? See video....
I'm running the truck at full 1900rpm to get it nice and hot and bleed it out. It's at 200 degree water temp and the level Keeps constantly going up and down like this. Is this a normal thing?

None of the C15's here do that.
dustinbrock Thanks this. -
That isnt normal at all. You ran it for awhile with the cap off to get the air out? Level should stay put more or less.
SAR, Oxbow and dustinbrock Thank this. -
Now that I changed the fitting, it's acting different. I filled it up and ran it for 2 hours then I put the cap back on.
My mistake was not letting it run like that for a length of time, after maybe 1 minute I got inside and dumped my air to start the compressor, I did that twice then noticed the drivers side of the expansion tank was full of coolant and I had lost the heat in my cab.
Shut the truck off and released the pressure then started it back up and watched and air bubbles blorped massive amounts of my coolant out . I think its finally bled out so i think im gonma put my pressure guage on it and see what it goes to, then ill engage the compressor again and see if it goes up. -
Maybe I'll just isolate the compressor first by blocking both coolant lines then run the engine a bit and see what psi I get in the coolant, then ill reconnect and try again.

You can isolate the compressor like that but make sure it doesnt start pumping as it will heat up quick. I have ran a garden hose into the inlet of the compressor just to cool it when it is out of the loop of the engine coolant.

Ain't right for sure. Only other one I have seen like that was a KCB C13 with a bad air compressor. Seemed like the Cat branded ones were bad for it, Bendix BA921 didn't have near the issues.

Just hooked the pressure gauge up. The air tanks were at 110psi when I started the truck and they stayed there while the coolant system built up pressure. Once the coolant pressure reached 17psi and stopped climbing, the air tank pressure starting going up from 110psi to 130psi where the air drier kicked out.

Did you fix this leak? Something doesn’t look lined up right. It looks ####eyed in the housing.
SAR, Oxbow and dustinbrock Thank this. -
Not yet, I think I'll bring that back to the mechanic who just did the water pump and let him fix that one. It was doing this before he did the water pump and it was sealed good at that point So I don't believe that's my issue.bigguns, SAR, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.
