Wassup Truckerland, how are y'all doing today? Greetings from Moss Point Mississippi. Originally I wasn't going to post today because it was a pretty boring day. Woke up, hammered down, stopped for a pee break. Hammered down again, stopped for fuel. Drove a little more and parked for the night. Nothing exciting. However, I saw something that was post worthy this morning. A drunk driver. I couldn't believe what I had seen, it was crazy. Some dummy in a pickup was very obviously blitzed and had himself quite a morning. He passed me up, then slowed down a little then accelerated a little again. He was weaving a little but not really noticeable. Then a little more. Then a little more. He was still in the hammer lane and there was consruction on this stretch the road. There were cement barriers on both sides. During one of his weaves, he ended up brushing the wall pretty decisively. I'm betting it left one hell of a mark. He wandered over to the slow lane and almost went off the road but he caught himself at the last minute. Kicked up a huge dust cloud. I recorded it on my dashcam but it turns out that move was unnecessary. He was getting closer to other vehicles up the road and they saw him coming. There was a car with a passenger leaning out the window and clearly giving this guy a verbal beating. There was also a trucker that looked as though he was tryng to edge him off the road. They obviously were handling it so i just hung way back. Scary stuff man. The craziest part to me was it was SEVEN IN THE FRIGGIN MORNING! Good lord. Who knows, maybe he works weird hours. But that was an interesting scene to behold. Opie sent me another load today which changed my plans for tonight. I was going to go a little further, but that's no longer necessary. My current load delivers tomorrow at 11am. My next load picks up about 30 minutes away on Sunday. He did that because my hours are getting thin. So instead of driving another couple hours I decided to stop here and stop in at a Mexican joint I like. No need to rush. I am 7 hours away from my final, so I'll have to leave early. But as soon as I deliver, my day is over. The next load doesn't pick up until 2pm the next day. I see some major sleep coming my way, and that's a beautiful thing. Well, that's all I've got for the day. For the most part, pretty boring. Hope everyone is doing well, I'll talk at ya tomorrow. Peace y'all.

Do you guys get many loads where you’re going 700 or 800 miles and you have 3 or 4 days to get there?
-
Only if it's some weird situation like a delivery right after a holiday. I had a load like that around New Years.Shock Therapy Thanks this.

Cool. So how do your mileage bonuses work? Is it monthly?
-
I'm on straight pay. The per diem drivers get the bonuses. I'm at 43cpm on everything. But I'm pretty sure they get it weeklyShock Therapy Thanks this.

The per diem pay sounds a little complicated the way they do it. Is that right?

Greetings from Baltimore MD.
The mileage bonuses are weekly depending on your mileage for that week.
I average 2,600-3,000 miles a week with 3,000+ many times, and in a one month span in Sept/Oct I had one week of 3,695 and another of 3,753. I haven’t gotten that much since but there are always many factors in how many miles you get from week to week.
To me Per Diem is t complicated or difficult, my trainer is on it and several other drivers I know personally, but is something you’ll need to look at and decide for yourself, and I recommend doing that with your tax person. As of this week my cpm is .438 and I’m scheduling my paid vacation the first of March, I get two more weeks coming to me March 16th (my anniversary) so I’m happy with it personally. I have no vested interest in whether anyone else is straight pay or per diem though, and it neither upsets me or makes me happy what anyone chooses. To each their own with what works for you. There are many people here to help answer questions, none better than @Steelersjunkie, but it is a good idea to go over these with your recruiter as well. Best of luck!!

I was just looking at Millis website and was curious what a driver has to do to keep his truck at 70mph? I live on the west coast so I don’t ever see a Millis Truck and was curious what those safety guidelines are?
