I've spent a lot of time driving with my dad and was always taught to hit the interrupt switch or turn your lights off and back on to show they are clear.

I'm 26 now, and do it for every truck that passes me (unless they are really smokin by me and will be well past by the time I signal anyways). I cruise at 63 mph for the fuel mileage so I get passed a lot during the day. I don't get thanked very often but that's okay. I always thank people by hitting the 4 ways for a couple blinks.

Coming out of Houston the other day, I moved over to the left lane to allow a State Trooper to come into the right lane from an on-ramp. He was courteous and flashed me. I thought that was nice.....but then he rode my butt for a while (betcha he ran my plates). Oh well, I'm squeeky clean. haha.

For you old timers, it isn't completely lost with the new generations of drivers!! (But I was lucky enough to have an oldschool teacher)

yeah it happens quite often to me also. I'll keep flashing drivers because it's the courteous thing to do. We can't let the actions of a few idiots stop us.

If you are in another truck and you flash properly, it is from 1 professional to another. If you are in a vehicle that is Not a truck, lets say, 20 million cars/trucks/SUV's out who may have never driven for a living, you may not know what they are up to. I could take it that they want to pass me prior to me moving in front of them in their lane. So do not take offense, take it as the professional driver is playing on the safe side.

My father was a truck driver for a few days short of 30 years. He still flashes in his mini-van for truckers. I learned at a young age what he was doing. And most of the time, the truckers thanked him for being courteous. Now that i am a driver, I flash. Because now it isnt just courteous, it is PROFESSIONAL. Yeah, i am a newbie, but still know it all boils down to being professional.

During the day, i give the guy a quick blink with my brights (as i run with headlights on all the time). Only when the sun starts going down will i actually blink the lights. Maybe i'm not doing it right, but i will turn them off for a few seconds, then turn them on. sometimes ill give them 2-3 quick flashes. dont thank me? ill use my interrupt switch and thank you for showing your lack of appreciation.

i even thank the 4-wheelers who slow down and let me lane change when they see my signal on. it is only the polite and professional thing to do.

Good point, I usually like to get a bit farther ahead of a driver than where he flashes me over at.
But if a driver flashes me, then I will blink him back.

My father drove truck for over 30 years, so from an early age I learned to flash (blink) when there was room for them to get back over to the slow lane. It is gratefully appreciated in LA when most truckers can't get a break. On my latest RV trip from ND to AZ, I was acknowleged a TOTAL of 4 times. Sad as it may, I will continue it, even if I am ignored. Good suggestions though. I have "day lights" too. I won't hit high beams either.

Some chicken trucks are wired so the driver can flash the clearance lights. This is in the trailer but many trucks are wires with a tail light interrupt switch.
I do not care if another driver "flashes" me(with lights) I still flash my lights(truck or trailer) to other drivers. During the day it is courteous but at night I feel it is for safety also. I ---N-E-V-E-R flash high beams and wish others would not do so. Some trucks have 4 and some 6 mirrors to help blind a driver when filled with bright lights.

    I must say, I'm a flasher also...It's how I was trained...

And your right, you don't get much acknowledgment these days...
I think many don't even know what it means...some might even think your angry at them when you flash...who knows...
